Macon might ask Atlanta for "dots.” The Columbus Enquirer-Sun thinks ‘‘go south, young man,” would be Horace Greeley’s advice if he were living at this day. In the talked of bill to redistrict the state the s venth district is to renlain as it is, with Douglas county, from the fifth, added to it. Mr. Pascal J. Moran, associate editor of the Atlanta Constitution, died last Friday night. lie was one of the cleverest writers on the Georgia press and was well known throughout the realms of journal ism. Hon Seaborn Wright, of Floyd, has introduced a bill in the house of represi ntatives to lease the space in the air adjacent to either side of the new viaduct and Broad street bn< ge in Atlanta for build ing lots At the eighth annual conven tion of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held at Wi.mington, N. C., the past week, Mrs. Ha.lie A. Rounsaville, of Rome, Ga., was elected president. Mis. Rounsa ville has been a deyoted worker in the cause of the Daughters and well deserves the honor bestowed on her. State School Commissioner Glenn made his appearance at Saudersyille, Ga., last ue -ic to stan : trial upon a charge of crimi nal libel. The prosecutor .is the countv school, commissioner of Washington county* whom the state school commissioner inti mated was short in his accounts, but investigation by the county school board proved otherwise. Some saltv correspondence was ex chan <*d between the two colu mn si tiers over tie Peabod fund, which resulted as above stated. Thin is all right, if you are too fat; and all wrong, if too thin already. Fat, enough for your habit, is healthy; a little more, or less, is no great harm. Too fat, consult a doctor; too thin, persistently thin, no matter what cause, take Scott’s Emulsion of Cod Liver Oil. There are many causes of get ting too thin; they all come under these two heads: over work and ‘under-digestion. O .Stop over-work, if you can; but, whether cu can or not, take Scott’s Emulsion of Cod Liver 0:1, to balance yourself w ith your work. \ou can’t live on it—true—but, by it, you can. 1 here’s a limit, however; you’ll pay for it. It will take a two-thirds majority o the votes of the county, i based on the last registration, with j thuse voters who may have been idisqualified since the last registra -1 tiou taken off, and those added who i ha\e qualified since, to legalize the ! issuance. The court house question is squarely up against the people and the policy embodying the most reason and feasibility is the one which should be adopted in meet ing it. The more progressive ele ment of the county’s citizenship has recotignized fully the need of a new structure. Opposition, more or less strong, that existed, even, a few years back has been pushed away by the logic of facts, except a few men who seem opposed to general progress and wince at what seems a little rise in taxation, no matter what the occasion, al though the burden in this instance dues not more than equal that of* ihe average county in Georgia. The court house we have is practically as good as none as none, it being in the wrong place, inad equate in appointments, irremedi aiely out of repair and dangerous to the health of those who regu lariy or temporarily occupy it. \V< doubt if there ever has been a .m-reabsolute need foracourt house In a county in Georgia than today exists in Bartow county. The grand jury of the spring term of court made a strong re commendation for a building,wi i h was followed by the action of the commissioners, who we believt have acted with the very best in terests of the people at heart They have let out the contracts in a judicious manner after the most careful inquiry and investigation with economy, convenience and durability in mind, and that fo the foundation is now' being car ried out. Forsooth, it should b*. found out by an individual that a building might cost a litttle more m have it as he wolf'd want it. would it be go xt policy to ski nip anc; curtail to save a few dollars in the beginning and finally lose in the sorry character of the building? The average man will say "no.” ana rules of action fit for individuals- are as fit for public men. The court house has been planned and ommenced on coramendably judi cioi’.s lines and the commission: r think the building is such a one a.- uns county needs, and no matte: what were the speculations am; calculations beforehand, we be lieve they have done the best they could in the premises. The question of bonds for a court house was submitted to the people a year agoand was defeated, and now some people who voted against bonds complain of the direct tax, which they claim wili be too burdensome, and say bonds should have been issued. These will have a chance now to help adopt the scheme they claim to think the best. The commissioners in proceed ing on the plan of building by di direct taxation do not assume an arbitrary role and are willing that whatever mode suits the people best should be adopted: hence their submission of the question to the people after the recommendation of the grand jury. The News and Courant believes the issuance cf bonds would be the best solution of the qusstion. It is believed the taxes would hardly be greater than they have been, and if increased it would be hardly pereiptible, and posterity would do its share in bearing the burden. It will take a great deal of inter est in the matter to assure the ne cessary vote, and we hope the friends of progress throughout the county will stir themselves *o the end that a result so desirable should be attained.
