CHEROKEE CLUB OF CMMSVILLL Report of Year’s Work Read at State Federation. T 0 ERECT LIBRARY BUILDING. of the Glob Have Inter ested Themselves in Many Im provements for the City. Southern Woman jH O r the past year the Cherokee C; u b, of Carter sville, has concen ,rated its energies and endeavored (o do a few things well. The mem *bership has increared and we now have sixty names enrolled consist ing of the best workers and most influential women of the town and county. The library and public impove ment work has advanced more dur ing this time than any other de partment of the club. There seemed to be greater need along wthose two lines than any other. 'The public library is in a flourish ing condition, containing about five hundred volumes; and to see the number of school children who patronize it each week repays the library committee for its faithful work. At present our library is in a room rented by the club.but dur ing the coming year we hope to in stallit in itspermanenth >me. Plans .havs been drawn and a part of the necessary funds donated for the building of a public library, which will also have in connection, a club ; room and rest room. Money will 1 be raised in different ways during 1 the winter by bazaars, subscript ions, etc. When this building is completed the greatest work of the ; Cheroke Club will have been ac i eomplished and it will be something of which we can be justly proud; and ere another federation meeting we hope to chronicle that the Cher okee Cluu is “at home” to its friends under its “own vine and fig tree.” The traveling library is also do* ing a good work. Two hundred volumes divided into sets of twenty five each are kept circulating through the country, and the chairman of this committee tells us that they are always in demand. This library will be enlarged to four hundred volumes during the year, so the many calls for the books may be satisfied. Through the influence of the Village Improvement Committee many good things have been done. Tue neatly kept park with its fresh ly painted fence and new iron seats lias proven an object lesson for the city fathers and they have become, as it were, honorary members of this committee. The street, fences, etc., of the town are in better order than they have ever oeen. The public school grounds have been beautified by graces, grass and trees, and the school children are already asking and planing for the flower beds for the coming spring. A city cart has recently been purchased, through the suggestions of a club Roman, and put on the streets of the town. Money has been raised re cently for the purpose of putting in i drinking fountain in tne park. This is needed greatly in our town md will be put in as soon as possi ble. The Home Science Committee jf Cherokee club is also progress ing in its work. Two members of the club have offered their services Mid expect to str-rt a cooking de partment in one of the public schools. A room has been given hem, utensils and other necessar es furnished and the work will be >egun within a short time. Thi members of the Cherokee hub feel very jubilant over their >ast success and bright prospects, AT feel sure that when our library •Adding is completed, a rest room omfortably fitted up for the coun rv women to spend a quiet mo ne'tt; our traveling library doubled n 'ts capacity; our park made more ' BA ° H *'l hate been ,mlnar CASCABFTSondM ' effective laxative Uiey Alt *lllll l| W< 0* My daughter and I were bothered with ‘ 'niacli and our breath was very bad.
