and at the beginning of his re

Ellis H. Roberts in, securing his
services as speaker for the evening,
Mr. Wu said:
‘ When Mr. Roberts came for

Mr. V\ u. “It may be that he is

At the same time Mr. Wu might
well have told the following inci

“Why did he resign?’, asked Mr.

Ouly a Mask.
Manj' are not being benefited by
the summer vacation as they should
be. Now, notwithstanding much
outdoor lile, they are little if any
stronger than they were. The tan
on their faces is darker and makes
them look healthier, but it is only
a mask. They are* still nervous,
easily tired, upset by trifles, and
they do not eat nor sleep well.
What they need is what tones the
nerves, perfects digestion, creates
appetite, and makes sleep refresh
ing, and that is Hood’s Sarsapar
illa. Pupils and teachers generally
will find the chief purpose of the
vacation best*subserved by this
great medicine which, as we know,
“builds up the whole system.”

Wanted a Democratic Ward-
A Philadelphian recently had
; occasion to visit the chief physician
lof the asylum for the insane at
J Columbus, 0., and was shown
| through the institution by the phy
sician and the superintendent, who
told him many interesting anec
dotes about the various inmates,
I says the Philadelphia Times. One,
an Irishman from Steubenville,
that state had been brought to the
asylum at a time when it was filled
j almost to its capacity; and the
i superintendent, turning to one of
, the physicians, had asked:
“Doctor, what ward would we
. better put this new man into?”
The Irishman, recognizing that
he was the new man referred to,
spoke up and said:
“Indade, an’ I car’re little what

save yoti hours of suffering.
Watch out that the dealer does not
sell you an imitation, as the great

to try to make something to sell,
said to be “just as good as the
genuine.”

A Sustaining Diet.
These are the enervating davs, when,
as somebody has said, men drop bv the
sunstroke as if the Dav ot Fire had
dawned. They are fraught with danger
to people whose systems arspoorly sus
tained; and this leads us to say, in the
interest of the less robust of our read
ers, that the full etteet of Hood’s Sarsa
parilla is such as to suggest the propri
ety of vailing this medicine something
besides a blood purifier and tonic, -say,
a sustaining diet. It makes it much
easier to bear the heat, assures refresh
ing sleep, and will without any doubt
avert much sickness at this time of year.
