good true and Christian like that
from the very beginning she com

S-am Jones to Reporters-
A prominent Baltimore phy
sician tells in the Baltimore Sun the
falkming aneedeot about Sam
Jones, the Georgia evangelist:
When several years ago Mr.
Jones was at Emory Grove Camps,
ihe newspaper reports of his ser
mon caused him to complain.
At the last service he looked
down at the reporters, who sat at a
table just in front of the pulpit.and
said
“And I want to tell you fellows
that I like you a lot, in spite of
yotor manifold faults. You boys
don't treat me right, though. You
take my sermous and pick out a
piece here, a piece there and a
piece somewhere else; then you
•string the pieces together, and uat
nrtlly y they read funny.
“Now, suppose I reported the
Bible that way! A man asks me
what the Bible tells him to do. I
read rn one place, ‘And Judas went
-yut and hanged himself,’ I turn
over aad read, ‘Go thou, aud do
likewise. And in another place I
find. And do it quickly.’
“Now, you see, boys, that sort
f thing won’t do; it ain’t fair.”

Election Yesterday.
The state and county election
passed off quietly yesterday, and
the democratic nominees went in
with nearly the full vote polled.
Tickets with the populist state
house officers were scattered over
the’county, and one independent
for representative was in the field,
but the opposition to the nominees
was not sufficient to excite inter
est, and only a light vote was
polled.
We will publish the vote by

New Use for Refined Paraffine Wax-
Anew and important use for
Refined Paraffine Wax seems to
have been discovered by a promi
nent resident of Ohio, living near
Lancaster, who had two trees badlv
damaged by storm, one being a
maple and the other an apple. In
each case a large limb was broken
down from the trunk, but still
attached to it. The limbs were
propped up and fastened securely
with straps, very much as a broken
leg might be fastened with splits,
and (heir melted refined wax poured
into and over all the cracks. The
“surgical operation” was entirely
successful. The Paraffine prevent
ed the escape of the sap, kept out
the rain and moisture which would
have rotted the trees, prevented the
depredations of insects, and the
limbs seem thus far to be perfectly
re attached to the trees.
A Great Live Stock Show-
Geogia, the Carolinas, Alabama
and Tennessee will show at the
Southern Inter-State Fair, Atlanta,
Oct. 8 25, what they have done and
can do in the way of raising fine
cattle. This fair has spent thous
ands of dollars to encourage the
farmers of the south to raise better
live stock, and it is said that the
fair can trace sales of eight to ten
thousand head of registered cattle
as the direct result of past fairs.
This year the entries for premiums
are restricted to the southern states,
the idea being to eneourage south
ern fanners who will not have to
compete with the professional ex
hibitors from the north and west.
