Regular Ticket-
CANDLER WINS OVER ROSS-

Vote Cast.
The state and county election
v held on Wednesday of last week
throughout the state passed off
quietly and no organized opposition
having been made against the dem
ocratic ticket. In some of the
counties independents were elected
to local offices, and where no nom
inations were made there were
some hot fights.
The state house officers elected

Treasurer, Robert E. Park.

Judge Candler defeated Judge
Ross for the .-upreme bench by
about twenty thousand votes.

The governor and state house
officers received in the county an
average of 825, while the populist
ticket received an average of 60
votes, Capt. P. H. Larey leading
with 72. For supreme court judge
Ross received 424, Candler 403.
The new officers will enter upon
their duties on January Ist and the
affairs of the county will be in good
hands for the next two year 5.
CONFEDERATE MONUMENT-
Shaft to be Raised to Memory of
Bartow’s Dead Heroes.
A monument w>ll be erected to
Bartow county's confederate dead.
The ladies of the local chapter of
the Daughters of the Confederacy
have taken the matter in hand and
will push it to success.
At their last meeting a few
evenings ago the matter was.sprung
and the suggestion was received
with enthusiasm.
A committee of three, consisting
of Miss Marian Smith, Mrs. John
W. Akin and Mrs. Lillie Bradley,
was appointed to take the matter
in hand and with the cooperation
of the chapter, these ladies will
carry the movement forward with
their proverbial zeal.
At the meeting of P. M. B.
Young camp of confederate veter
ans Saturday a committee of five
was appointed to co-operate on be
half of the camp with the commit-1
tee of the Daughters and give
whateve aid they can to the move.
The News and Courant, having
made editoral suggestion on this
line, heartily sanctions the move
and’will give it all possible aid
during its progress.
Plans of procedure will soon be
in hand and, in the hands of the !
ladies, who succeed in whatever
they undertake, it is needless to i

THE KINGSTON HIGH SCHOOL.
Two years ago the good people of Kingston grew tired of their old school house, and determined to
"build anew one. The building was erected by private subscription and is an ornament to Jlie town and a
credit to its people. A spendid school is being maintained under the guidance of Prof. W. V. w hitteuburg,
principal, with a corps of able assistants. The school room is seated with the best desks to be obtained
and the attendance has been good from the beginning,
Married-
On Wednesday afternoon, Oct.
Ist., at 4:40 o'clock, p. m. at the
residence of the bride’s grandpar
ents. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Chunn,
Miss Jess e lone Garwood and Mr.
William Isaac Bennett were united
in marriage by the Rev. J. M.
Tumliu in the presence of relatives
and a few intimate friends. Mr.
Bennett is a successful young bus
iness man of Albany, Ga. Miss
Garwood is endowed with all the
accomplishments that make up
true womanhood and by her bright
cheery disposition has won for her
the love and friendship of all with
whom she comes in contact.
