DR. J. E. BARNARD-
Accepts Call to Baptist Church of
Cartersville.
Dr. J. E. Barnard, pastor of the
First Baptist, of Anniston, Ala.,
has accepted a call to the Baptist
church in this citv, and will come
to the church about the first cf
April.
Dr. Barnard was here about two
weeks ago when he preached to
the congregation of the Baptist
church, and made a most favorable
impression on all who heard him.
He was unanimously called to the
church, and has accepted.
Dr. Barnard has been in Annis
ton several yeais and has built up
his church at that place from a
membership of three hundred to
nine hundred, and enjoys the con
fidence and esteem of all his people.
His family consists of a wife and
two children, and Cartersville will
give them a cordial welcome to
this city.
Walter Hudson Maxwell-
Walter Hudson came to bless
the home of Walter C. and Spicie
Maxwell, of Pine Log, but on De
cember 7th that much dreaded dis
ease among children, brain and
spinal affection, came and seized
him with so much force that he
never smiled again.
All that family, friends and phy
sicians could do was done for him,
Put God had a use for him and on
Saturday, Dec. 2isth He sent His
angels to linger until just the suu
sank in the west on the evening of
the 2ist, when they bore his spirit
back to the God who gave it to
await the coming of father and
mother, brother and sisters to unite
again in an unbroken family.
He remained just long enough to
entwine himself close to us as did
the little boy, Grady, who they
buried ten years ago, there being
only six days difference in their
ages.
His little cradle and chair he so
much liked to occupy until he heard
his father’svoiceor hisbiothers and
sisters coming in from school when
he expected a change and a big
play. They are empty now and
his little play things put away—
silent reminders of the little hands
that are still —but they are beck
oning us to a home more beau
tiful than earthly hands can build.
It was the desire of the family to
keep the little treasure, but they
bow in humble submission to the
will of one wno doeth all things
well.

Don’t think less of your system

it a thorough cleansing, too. Take

Died in Florida-
News has reached his relatives
and friends in this vicinity of the
death of Mr. John Leake, which
occured at his home at Kissemee,
Fla., last week. He has a son of
the late Dr. Leake and was for
years identified more or less with
the commercial life of Cartersville.
His wife preceded in him death
last summer. He leaves five chil
dren.
Big Cotton Sale-
Probably the largest transaction
in cotton ever made in Bartow
county in one lump was the sale of
eleven hundred bales of cotton
sold by Mr. Bob H. McGinnis last
week to Mr. G. T. Gentry.
The cotton was stored at the
Pioneer warehouse and at Stiles
boro and Taylorsville, and the
amount of money involved was
more than fifty thousand dollars.
World’s Great Fever Medicine
Johnson's Tonic does in a day what
slow Quinine cannot do in ten davs.
Its splendid cures are in striking con
trast with the feeble cures made bv qui
nine.
If you are utterly wretched, take a
thorough dose of Johnson’s Tonic and
drive out every trace of malarial poi
soning. The wise insure their lives and
the wiser insure their health by using
Johnson’s Chill and F*~ver Tonic. It
costs 50 cents if it cures; not one cent if
it does not.
Tribute to Mrs- Clark-
While on earth the joy bells of
Christmas tide were ringing out,
and while around the holy of holies
in heaven, the angels hosts were
singing again, “Peace on earth
good will to man.” the sweet spirit
of Mrs. Fanuie P. Clark entered
the portals of Paradise.
What a fitting time to lay aside
the cross atid take up the crown
and what a matchless anthem to
accompany their welcome. “Well
done thou good and faithful ser
vant, enter thou into the joy of thy
Lord.”
She has gone from among us,
but her works do follow her. A*
an auxiliary while we mourn her
departure we thank Goo for her
life. Therefore, be it resolved.
1 st. That the M. E. Church,
South has lost a loyal member and
a consecrated worker.
2nd. That the Home Mission So
ciety has lost a wise officer, a spir
itual minded leader, one zealous of
all good works.
3rd. That tne Cartersville auxil
iary mourns her going, as the taking
away of a friend and counselor. !
Her quiet, Christ-like influence has j
been an inspiration to us as indi- j
viduals; her official guidance has
strengthened us as an auxiliary.
4th. That as an auxiliary and as
individuals we strive to attain unto j
that better way in which she walk- j
ed; that we seek a more abundant j
portion of the humanity, and child-!
like faith which characterized her
life so that when for us the silver
chord shall be loosened. God shall
have need of hers, to serve Him
around His throne.
sth. That a copy of these reso
lutions be spread upon the records
of this auxiliary.
Miss Mary Wikle,
Mrs. T. H. Christian,
Mrs. C. A. Allday.
What a splendid type of tireless
activity is the sun as the psalmist
describes it issuing like “a bride
groom from his chamber and re
joicing like a strong man to run a
race.” Every man ought to rise
in the morning refreshed by slum
ber and renewed by rest, eager for
the struggle of the day. But how
rarely this is so. Most people rise
still unrefreshed, and dreading the
strain of the day’s labors. The
cause of this is deficieut vitality
and behind this lies a deficient
supply of pure, rich blood, and an
inadequate nourishment of the
body. There is nothing that will
give a man strength and energy,
as will Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical
Discovery. It does this by increas
ing the quantity and quality of the
blood supply. This nourishes the
nerves, feeds the brain, builds up
enfeebled organs, and gives that
sense of strength and power which
makes the struggle of life a joy.
The “good feeling” which follows
the use of “Golden Medical Dis
covery” is not due to stimulation
as it contains no alcohol, whisky
or other intoxicant. It does not
brace up the body, but builds it up
into a condition of sound health.
F. K B.
We heard a man say the other
morning that the abbreviation for
February—Feb.—means freeze every
body, and that man looked frozen in
his ulster. It was apparent that he
needed the kind of warmth that stays,
the warmth that reaches from __head
to foot, all over the body. We could
have told him from personal know
ledge that Hood’s Sarsaparilla gives
permanent warmth, it invigorates the
blood and speeds it along through
artery and vein, and really fits men
and women, boys and girls, J ’o enjoy
eo'd weather and resist the attacks
of disease. It gives the right kind of
warmth, stimulates and strengthens
at the same time, and all its benefits
are lasting. There may be a sugges
tion in this for you.
