The school at Oak Grove is fast
pushing its way to the front under
the guidance of Prof. E. O. Davis.
The writer is confident that there
is not another school in the county
that has made as rapid advance
ment along every line of studies as
have the pupils of Oak Grove. It
is amazing to see. The patrons
are well pleased with the rapid
advancements and are giving every
encouragement that is possible.
We might say in conclusion that
this school, although its name has
been changed to Oak Grove, is
still a pioneer school of Bartow. It
was organized in the latter part of
1830 and was then known as the
Macedonia school. We could give
quite an interesting history of it
ano may at some opportune time
but for the present we will say that
Bartow has never had a school that
has prepared more young men and
young ladies for wider, nobler and
better fields of labor than has the
old Macedonia school.

Mr. Reed Stegall has just fin

When a Southern representative
is at home he has as his servant a
good old colored man, called
Snowball, who stands in ostensi

while waiting on the table, Snow

on the person of his congressman.
With apparent indignation, the
Southerner shouted:
“Snowball, you black rascal, do
you know you have scalded a rep

congress?”
“Fo’ de Lawd, ah knows dat,
but ah di tn’t mean fer to do it.”
“Do you know, you scoundrel,”
continued the congressman, in still
more violent terms, “that you have
scalded a man who may be senator
ot the United States?”
Snowball’s face took on a still
more serious look aud he again
apologized most abjectedly, but his
master was not satisfied.
“Snowball,” he roared, “you
have scalded a man who may yet
be president of the United States.”
Snowball’s face relaxed and two
rows of ivories came into promi

“Lawd, mistah,” said he “when
you gets to be president I reckon
I’ll be Gawd.”
