MKINLEY ESPECIALLY PLEASED W hat To Do With Noted Captive Filipino Leader Is a Mooted Ques tion Among Authorities. The press reports of the capture ot Aguinaldo by General Funstou were confirmed Thursday by General Mac Arthur, at ?J;}uila, in the following cablegram to Adjutant General Cor bin: “General Funston has returned from expedition to Palauan, prov ince of Isabella, where he cap tured Agninaldo, who is uow in my possession at Malacanan. Par ticulars later." OFFICIALS ARK ELATED. The news of General Aguinaldo’* capture by General Funston was re ceived everywhere in official circle? with intense gratification, but perhaps nowhere did it create lAore satisfac tion than iu the white hoise. The firs! official news to reaoh the executive matisiou was General Mao.vrthur’s dis patch announcing the capture, which catne about midnight Wednesday night. Thursday morning bhe presi dent alao saw Admiral Remeyfs cable gram aud the press dispatches'. The president naturally ys vert much gratified that the chief mtover ii tho insurrection has at last beenVken It has been the opinion of thelmili tary authorities for a long time that Aguiualdo was doing more than all the other agencies combined to keep the rebellion in the Philippines alive, and every energy was direoted to compose his capture. It is rather a remarks hie tribute to the daring aud re tpurcefulness of General Funston uat long before he made the capture! he was selected as the officer who ( might accept it. It was the intentioa of General Fuuston Home time ago to return to the United States bat by direction of the war department he was detained in the Philippines in the hope that junt such a contingency as did arise should give him the opportunity to test his prowess. Both the president and war department were fully in formed of the trap laid to capture the insurgent chief and the result of the expedition has been auxiously awaited for several days. Several interesting and vital cues EVERYTHING FOR .■f - C. X, • WE WANT YOUR PURCHASES- tions are raised by Aguinaldo’s cap’ ture. If the insurrection now collapses, as it is hoped it will, it may not be necessary to enlist the full strength ol the army provided for in the army re organization bill. There also is the question of the disposition to be made of the insurgent chief. Bnt it is too early yet for the authorites to decide these questions. There is also much speculation as to the reward which General Funston may receive for his work. It is con sidered not improbable that his re ward will be a commission in the regn lar establishment. In cabinet circles General Funston's exploit wns referred to in laudatory terms and the probable effect will have on the Philippines is being generally discussed. Various opinions are expressed by public men in Washington as to what will be done with Agninaldo. The president intends to make no hasty decision, preferring to wait un til he can get advice from Judge Taft and General MacArthur. Judge Taft’s opiuion will have much to do with the decision. The president’s present idea is to place Aguinaldo where he cannot com municate in any way with his former followers and can do nothing to stii up trouble. DEWEY EXPRESSES OPINION. Says Funston’* Capture of Aguinaldo Will Terminate War. Admiral Dewey was at the Albemarle hotel, New York, Thursday, and was interviewed as to the probable effect of the capture of Aguinaldo. He ex pressed the greatest satisfaction at the news of the capture and said he thought that this would really wind np the period of resistance. ‘‘IMPERIALISn NOT REMOVED." Bryan Expresses Himself Regarding Capture of Filipino Leader. William J. Bryan has the following to say regarding the capture oI Aguinaldo: “While no one can predict with certainty the effect of his capture, it is possible it may pat an end to war for the present, but the objection te im perialism is not removed by the sur render of those who have been oppos ing it in tho Philippi aes. Imperialism re wrong because it changes every the ory of government. We cannot ad minister an empire in the orient and mahtain a republic in America.” bereaved Husband Suicides. Sores and Ulcers never become chronic unless the blood is in poor condition —is sluggish, weak and unable to throw oil the poisons that accumulate in it.
