tended the funeial of his brother,

er, and when he reached Rome he
received a telegram that he had
died.

children have returned from a
visit to Mr. Rowland’s parents in

had her charming sister, Miss
Mary Mayson, visiting her for
several days and returned with her
to Cedartown.

Mr. Harry Dodd, of Atlanta,
who is spending several days with
his parents near Ford, came in
Monday. Mr. Dodd is a most
successful young lawyer, who, with
his brothers, has built up a fine
practice in the Gate City. He is
a young man whose friends are
justly proud of.
At an election of teachers for
the new Baptist school at Adairs
ville last week, Miss Anna, daugh
ter of Maj. and Mrs. A. M. Foute
was selected to take charge of the
primary department. Miss Foute
is a most talented young woman
and will no doubt render good
service in the new school.

Several of Bartow’s singers are
to meet with the congregation of
Rowland Springs church the first
Sunday in July. The old church
which was burned a year ago, is
being rebuilt, and is now near
enough completed in which to
hold services. Dinner on the
grounds and every one invited.
Dedication services will be held
at the New Salem Methodist
church, near Stilesbcro next Sun
da}’, Rev. W. A. Harris preaching
the dedicatory sermon. This is
the church located near Deputy
Sheriff Nick Adams’ and which he
was largely instrumental in build
ing. It is in a prosperous condi
tion and a great help in that com
munity.

Hon. Pope Brown, president of
the State Agricultural Society, has
appointed the superintendents of
the different departments for the
coming state fair in Savannah.
Mr. Starling M. Roberts, of this
county was made superintendent
of Department J.-Forestry, Mines,
Minerals. Col. J. J. Conner will
have charge of the department of
manufactures and textiles. They
will receive $5 per* day during the
holding of the fair.
The Rev. Wm. Goddard, of
Summerville. Ga., arrived in th
city Tuesday and is assisting Rev.
E. M. Craig in a meeting at the
East Side church. Mr. Goddard
is a fine preacher and good con
gregations are turning out. The
public is cordially invited to attend
these services held at 4 p. m. and
Bp. m. fora week or ten days.

Dr. Alfred T. Calhoun, who has
been taking an eight weeks’ post
graduate course at the New York
Polyclinic ar.d Hospital, returned
home Saturday afternoon, coming
around by boat to Norfolk, thence
by the Air Line, a most interesting
trip. He has put in his time well
at his studies and increased his al
ready good fund of medical and
surgical knowledge to a consider
able extent. His friends and pa
trons were all glad of his return.

He has accepted a position with
the engineering coips of the Blue
Ridge Mining Company.
Mrs. W. 11. Felton, attired in a
most becoming gown of Georgia
homespun, left for Warm Springs
Wednesday to attend the educa
tional convention. The dress was
a gift from Mr. W. J. Kincaid, of
the Griffin mills, and made a most
handsome one Mrs. Felton was
very proud of it and well she may.
It is '"eported tha‘. there are sev
eral cases of smallpox near New
Hope, Paulding county, and we
suppose there is no doubt about
it being the genuine article.
There are a few cases also at Wal
esca, Cherokee county. It is scat
tered through the country so much
that it behooves people to be very
careful about going near any one
that has anv symtoms of the dis

Patton, the pastor of the Presby
terian church at this place, will be
gratified to learn that the degree
of D. D. has been conferred upon
him by the University of Georgia.
Dr. Patton is a graduate of the
Southwestern University at Clark
esville, Tenn., and is a gentleman
of ripe culture as well as of devot
ed piety and consecration to the
work of the Lord. The honor is
therefore worthily bestowed, and
is in recognition of those solid
traits and acquirements which all
who know Dr. Patton are well
aware that he possesses. We ex

Mr. J. J. York, the father of
Russell York was arrested Mon
day afternoon charged with sup
plying his son with tools to be
used in escaping from jail. A few
days ago some of the other pris
oners informed Sheriff Smith that
Russell York had a file with which
he was preparing to get out and
upon investigation the file was
found. It was charged that the
file had been supplied by J. J.
York. Mr. York has alwalys been
a good and substantial citizen and
many of his friends do not believe
he would aid in an evasion of the
law. He waived a hearing and
gave bond. Calhoun Times.
Russell York is the young man
arrested near C'.u’lersville for kid
napping.

Detition of David Iseman, T. P. Sloan, John
Brittain, all of the State of Pennsylvania, and
J . F Brittain, of the state of Tennessee, and B.
C Sloan, of the state of Georgia, respectfully
shows:
First. That Petitionersdeeirefor themselves,
their associates, successors and assigns, to be in
corporated and made a body corporate and pol
itic, under the laws of Georgv>, under the corpor
ate name and style of “The Pittsburg 6: Georgia
Mining & Manufacturing Company .’’
Second Petitioners desire to be incorporated
for theterm of twenty years, with the privilege of
renewal as often as the SRme can be done under,
tlie laws of the state.
Third. The objects of said corporation are]
pecuniary gain to its stockholders, by means of i
engaging in some one or more of the following]
business enterprises, to wit:
(A) The buying, owning, leasing, selling,
sub-letting and renting of real property.
(B) The mining, quarrying and selling iron
ore. manganese, ochre, barytes, limestone, and
any or all other metal, minerals, stones or clays
that they may desire to mine, and also the pur
chasing and dealing in tlie above named articles.
(C) The manufacture of pig iron, ferro-man
ganese. steel and other products of ores and min
erals; the making and having charcoal, coke, re
fining barytes, ochres and clays of a t kinds, as
they may desire to purchase or mine.
(I)). The operation of such plants, mills or
furnaces as may be required to convert the above
named crude materials into more valuable and
1 -aleable condition, and the doing of anythin* and
everything usual and neccessary in the operation
of a ruining and manufacturing enterprise.
Fourth. The particular business of the said
Corporation will be to mine, quarry, prepare for
market and sell either in the crude or manufact
ured state, anv or all <f tie ores, minerals or
clays herein before enumetated from properti-s to
lie acquired by said corporation-cither by deed or
contract of lease in the County of Baitow, State
of Georgia, or elsewhere, within or without said
State.
Firth. I’etitioners slmw that the capital
stookof said Corporation will upon its organiz
ation lie Sixty Thousand Dollars, and they de
sire the corporation to have the power of increas
ing the sameftorn time to time ns its businacs
and interests maynquire, to Two Hr died Thou -
and Dollars and that said stock will be divided
into shares of fifty dollars each, which shall be
paid tor bv the subscribers either in cash or prop
erty, and if in property, then such property to be
taken by the corporation in payment of subscrip
ed capital stock at such valuation as may be

and no stockholder to be liable for any of the
debts or demands against the corporation or any
damages against the corporation, after the stock
has been fully paid for, either in cash or proper-
