CASSVILLE.
Cassville will get the extension
of the Rome railroad, and the new
court house will be built on the old
square, and what other good things
she will get, I will speak of in the
future.
Beautiful spring is with us again,
and the birds are full of warbling,
the yards are full of flowers, the
stores are full of pretty girls, and
our prosy boys art* running over
with spring poetry.
The time is at hand for picnics,
and the long idle Ashing pole will
be called into requisition, and won't
it be joyful, joyful, joyful!
Our supreme justice court held
an all day session Friday last,
Chief Justice Hawks, presiding.
A jolly judicial team; their j-u-d-g
--m-e-n-t-s equaled only by Qosse’s
court reports.
Bob Smith, our live merchant, on
the strength of getting the depot
agency of the Rome road extension,
has bought anew suit of clothes,
and a drummer’s smoking hat, and
is splurging around muchly.
Grassdale will have a wedding
soon, grass or no grass.
The Chronicler, who lives in the
house that Hanford built isco-agita
ting some more deviltry on the
high priest. Look out for the en
gine when the whistle blows.
Fence or no fence.
Our Chief Justice Hawks, like
poor old Uncle Ned, has no hair on
the top of his head. Will some
subscriber suggest a receipt—a reg
ular wool restorer.
Cassville will have a big barbe
cue, a land sale and —and—and —
and —when the railroad comes.
See if she don’t.
Major Barrow, our pumpkin
husMer, does not contemplate rais
ing so many of the yellow beauties
this year. At least not enough for
an agricultural report.
One of Cass Station’s dudes said
to a Kingston lassie:
“Hickory bark anil white oak tilling,
I'll lnarrv you if mam unit dad la
willing.”
He has been poulticing his jaws
ever since.
Old Cassville is full of dots.
Ain’t it a pity the paper give out?
HTILEHIW >ro.
The farmers are up with their
work again. We have a thrifty set
of farmers through this section and
a few sunshiny days puts them up
with their crops.
Mr. J. R. Jolly, one of our earli
est planters, reported that he had
some cotton up last Sunday. Who
can beat that ?
Mrs. Mattox, of Florida, who is
on her way to Little Rook, Ark., is
stopping a few days with Mrs. T.
K. Sproul.
Rev. Mr. Barrett, jmstor of Rac
coon church, preached an interest
ing sermon at the academy last
Sunday afternoon. We hope he
will continue to preach there once
a month at least.
Mr. J. F. Patterson spent last
Sunday in your city, waiting to hold
an inquest Monday morning.
Miss Lizzie Baker returned to
her home in Qwinnett county last
Saturday, to the regret of some of
our boys.
Miss Addie Stokely spent last
Sunday in Acworth, visiting her
parents.
Mrs. Annie Taff visited Cedar
town last week.
Miss Grace McCormick spent
Saturday and Sunday with her par
ents. She is attending the West
End Institute at Cartersville.
Our town is not so drowsy now
since the Messrs. Milam have
moved their chair factory here.
The hum of the machinery helps us
to keep our eyes open. Fred would
like for the girls to come around
and let him show them through the
works.
Our great annual picnic comes
off on Saturday May 3. Everybody
invited to come and bring well
filled baskets. Come one, come all
both large and small, and let us en
joy the day to the fullest extent.
The Courant-American is especial
ly invited. It is anticipated that
we will have the biggest picnic we
have ever had.
HAI.Li’S Mlliti.
We are having nice April show
ers and everything seems to yield
to their influence. The forest are
almost as green as it will ever be.
Farming is moving on nicely.
People scarce about town, being en
gaged in things of vastly more im
portance.
It seems that the mineral boom
has been stimulated within the
past few days a large amount of
property has been sold iu our lo-
cality, and, through the skill and
untiring energy of Mr. B. F. Arm
ington, the Barnsley property, with
several other lots, have been dis
posed of.
Miss Addle Baltzell and Master
Godfrey Barnsley have returned
home from Atlanta, where they
have l>een visiting, and report a
splendid time.
Mr. John T. Edwards is home
from Chattanooga to recuperate his
health. Hope soon to see him the
same again.
Col. Parks returned to Nashville
last week, hut is expected back
daily on matters of irnjiortant busi
ness.
We hope soon to see business in
a flourishing condition and our
town spreading out all over these
hills, and the Courant-Amerlcan in
every house, and then your report
er will be happy.
Preaching last Hunday in the
Methodist church of this place by
Rev. Mr. Qnillian, of Cass. He
preached a line sermon, glad he
has an appointment once a month.
He will always And a hearty wel
come whenever he comes.
OKAHSDAIiK.
Mrs. Mattie Crenshaw, who has
been visiting her parents, has re
turned home.
M rs. Ham I’ittard has been quite
sick for some time, but is improv
ing.
Grassdale has heretofore had the
reputation of being extremely
healthy, but from the number of
cases reported lately, I am afruid
she is beginning to lose her good
reputation.
Col. R. ('. Haxon has had quite a
painful attack, hut am glad to re
port him on improving grounds.
Willie Herring has been confin
ed to his lied for two weeks with a
very obstinate case of fever, is not
able to set up yet.
Miss May Hhelton, who has been
at J. L. Irak's for several months,
has returned to her home at Chat
tanooga. I know a certain young
engiueer has spent a few sad hours
since her departure.
On Sunday evening last, at 6
o’clock, at the residence of the
bride’s father, Miss Lizzie Blanton
and Mr. Curtis, from near Calhoun,
were married.
All who were so fortunate as to
hear the sermon of Rev. Mr. Hamby
on Hunday last, pronounced it as
one of his happiest efforts.
Bro. Hamby attended our prayer
meeting at Dr. Battle’s. We were
very much disappointed at hie
failure to give us a talk, for we
were expecting something real
good.
Miss Ora Best attended our
prayer meeting.
Mr. Tom Lyon made a public ad
dress on matters pertaining to the
alliance on Friday night at Best’s
Chapel.
On Saturday there was a county
alliance meeting at the same place.
