Miss Addie Henderson, of Ten

The sale at Emerson was attend
ed by a number of our citizens,
several of whom purchased lots.
The dime reading of the Episco
pal church will be given at the
Southland next Tuesday evening.
Mr. Uriah Stephens is making
an addition to the house recently
bought from Mr. Virgil Williams.

of Atlanta, attended the Strickland-
Benham marriage Tuesday morn
ing.
Messrs. James A. Bunson and T.
E. Green, of Washington, Ga.,
were at the Shelman hotel Mon
day.
A bucking Texas pony furnished
amusement to a crowd on the east
side of the square Sunday after
noon.
Next Sunday will be children’s
day and beautiful and appropriate
services will be held at the Meth
odist church.
Trade this spring is said by the
merchants to be unusually fine.
Of coarse, those who advertise are
doing the business.
Work on the new house of Sher-

will be quite an addition to Market
street when finished.
A freight off the track near Alla
toona delayed the Monday morning
north bound passenger train on
the W. &■ A. railroad.
Miss Louise Hunter, a pleasant
and bright young lady of Macon,
was in the city last Saturday, a
guest of the Shelman hotel.
Miss ZillahCason, after a delight
ful visit of several weeks to friends
and relatives in Marietta and At
lanta, returned home yesterday.
Our firemen, notwithstanding the
short time they have practiced, do
fine work at a fire. The depart
ment is certainly in most excellent
hands.
Patrons of the gas company have
not been without gas since the fire.
Mr. Miller, the superintendent,
commenced making gas the day af
ter the fire occurred.
“I must compliment you,” writes
a young lady to the Courant-Amer
ican, “upon the splendid paper you
are now giving us. I never saw a
better county paper.”
This is a gala week with the
young people as well as the older
ones. Picnics are plentiful, there
being no less than a dozen in the
county the present week.
The “B. B” club will give a pic
nic at the old Cooper iron works
next Saturday. Like every thing
this club undertakes this affair will
be a most pleasant one.
A large number of the people of
Cartersville attended the memorial
exercises in Atlanta last Saturday.
The old soldiers were down in great
force and they enjoyed the day
very much.
John Taylor, the barber, is putting
in a bath house in connection with
his barber shop, and he will soon be
prepared to give either hot or cold
baths. This is a stroke of enter
prise that should be liberally en
couraged by our people.
Mr. J. R. Inglebert, who has been
the engineer at Bufford’s ore bank
for some time, left yesterday for
Carters, Tenn., to accept a position
with a big mining company. He
has made many friends while here,
who wish him well wherever he
may go.
A slight change in schedule is
made on the East and West rail
road this morning. The freight
train No. 6. coming in makes con
nection with the 4:40 p. m. train for
Atlanta. The train heretofore ar
riving here at 8:50 o’clock comes in
at 8 o’clock p. m.
The Stilesboro picnic comes off
next Saturday. Thousands of big,
fat baskets are being prepared for
this occasion, and all are expecting
the usual joyful time. The East
and West railroad will give a one
fare rate for the round trip, being
thirty cents from Cartersville.
The generous host of the South
land has offered the use of his artis
tic parlor for the dime reading to
be held Tuesday evening. May 6th.
Every effort is being made to ren
der the programme exceptionally
fine. Mr. J. Harry Markham, for
merly with the Boston Ideals, will
add his fine voice to the attractions
of the evening. All are cordially
invited.
Mr. B. M. Blackburn is in the city
for the purpose of preparing an ar
ticle descriptive of Cartersville for
the columns of that widely circu
lated and able paper, the Atlanta
Constitution. The “write up” is to
appear next Sunday. Mr. Black
burn has been engaged in this spe
cial work tor some time and his ar
ticles are particularly bright, prac
tical and strong and the people of
numerous towns can already
attest their benefits. We are glad
that Cartersville is to share the ad
vantages of his pen and*the Con
stitution’s large circulation.
A Sunday School Picnic
The Baptist Sunday school had
its annual picnic at Gaines A Lewis’
mill yesterday. About one hun
dred people went up and all report
having a mostexcellent time. The
dinner was a most sumptuous one
and many pleasing games were in
dulged in.
Methodist Sunday School Picnic.
The Methodist Sunday School
will picnic at Gaines & Lewis’ mill
to-morrow, leaving on the 9:40
in the morning and returning on
the 4:40 in the afternoon. All con
nected with, as well as the friends
of the school are invited to partici
pate in the day’s pleasures.

petition of Norman J. Beane, of Bartow count.*,
Georgia, and Kaistian Kortgaard, of Minneapo
lis, Minnesota, respectfully showeth that they
desire for themselves their associates, sutvessors
and assigns, power to become and be Incorpor
ated and made a body politic under the corpor
ate name and style of the 4 Cartersville Ochre
Company.’* The objects of said corporation are
pecuniary gain and profit for the stockholders,
and its particular business will be to mine ail
kinds of ores and minerals, including iron, man
ganese, copper, ochre, lime and other minerals,
to quarry marble and other kinds of rock, to
manufacture, smelt, reduce, prepare, market and
sell all kinds of minerals and metals and the
various articles composed of these materials,
either wholly or In part and the manufacture of
all kinds of paints, to purchase, lease, Require,
use. improve, develop and hold mines, quarries,
real and personal property, or any interest there
in, or products thereof, and to sell, rent, lease
mortgage and otherwise encumtier and dispos,
of the some, to own. erect, maintain end operate
such factories, mills, buildings, machinery canals,
waterways, dams, locks, tramways, tracks nmi
roads, etc., as may be to carry on the
bus’ness conducted by s lid corporation, and to
carry on such mining, smelting, reducing, manu
facturing and trading business as such corpora
tion may from time to time determine,
The principal place of business of said corpora
tion is to be In Cartersville. Bartow county,
Georgia, but they de.dre to do business, operate
works and have branch offices In such other
places as may be desirable.
The capital stock of said corporation shall be
One Hundred Thousand Dollars with the privi
lege of increasing the same to any amount not
exceeding Five Hundred Thousand Dollars, di
vided into shares of One Hundred Dollars
each and said shares, when
fully paid up, shall be non-assessable by the cor
poration for any other purposes, whatsoever,
ten per cent, of said first mentioned sum tube ac
tually paid in before any of the powers conferred
by the charter herein prayed for, shall be exer
cised.
Petitioners desire to be incorporated, for the
te in of twenty years, with the priviledge of re
newel at the expiration of said term according to
the provisions of law. Petitioners desire to have
the power of suing and being sued: of contract,
lug and being contracted with; to have and use
a common seal, to make by-laws, rules and reg
u'ations. binding on the members, not Inconsis
tent with law, to alter, amend and annul the
same, to receive, hold, reut lease, purchase, mort
gage, sell and dispose of ami convey both real
and personal property necessary and prope • for
the purposes of said corporation and securing
debts to it, to elect, appoint, and remove such
officers, managers, directors, and agents, as it
desires, to issue bonds, scrip, or other evi
de ices of debts, and secure the same by such
mortgage deeds of trust or in such other manner
as they may deem best, and to do all and singu
lar such acts and exercise such powers, rights and
privileges as mav be necessary or to the inter
est, or for the legitimate execution of the ob
ects and purposes of said association.
The stockholders of said corporation are not
to be liable personally to the creditors thereof
except for the amount of unpaid stock sub
scribed or held by such stockholders, or after he
nas paid out of his private property debts of the
said corporation to an amount equal to bis un
paid subscription.
Wherefore petitioners pray that the Court pass
an order ineorporatlhg them under the name
and style and for the time aforesaid, with the
powers rights and privileges prayed for and as
may be authorized by law in such cases made
and provided, and petitioners will ever pray etc.
