A Sunday Afternoon Aceident.
A twenty-five dollar cow can
cause great mischief at times. One
got on the track of the Western and
Atlantic railroad last Sunday after
noon, near the transfer yard, just
as No. 2. came thundering along.
The engineer didn’t see the animal
in time to slacken up the speed and
the consequence was that her cow
ship was struck and dragged under
the wheels until she was cut up
into a thousand pieces. The engine
was derailed but the rest of the
train staid firmly on the track. The
switch engine was fired up and in a
couple of hours pulled the disabled
locomotive back on the track. The
accident occasioned a delay of
about six hours, as it was found im
practicable to make the run with
the same engine, and the cars were
pulled to Atlanta by No. 12.
It is very lucky that nothing
more serious occurred.
A New Telegraph Line.
Anew telegraph line has been es
tablished in this city. It is a
small boy enterprise and about half
a dozen of them form the company.
It is gotten up with the idea of
learning to sling the lightning and
each night the wires are kept hot.
About a mile of wire is strung out
on poles and each boy owns his own
instrument. It was so arranged
that a complete circuit is obtained
which makes it unnecessary to run
double wires. The young men who
are connected with the enterprise
are: Felton Loveless, Frank Gil
reath, Dallas Thomas, Walter Cason
and Thomas Gilreath.

Aii Exciting Justice Court Case.
An exciting legal contest is going
on in the justice court of tiie Wolf

five geese. The ease is one of iden

flocks of the birds, one claiming
that some of his had taken up with
the other’s. A good deal of feeling
lias been aroused, not only between
the parties interested, but between
their neighbors and friends. The
case was to have been decided last
week, but for some reason or other
it was postponed. A large crowd
of interested spectators, coming
from miles around, was in atten
dance and the failure to come to
trial occasioned a good deal of dis
appointment. Each side will spend
at least SIOO before the case is de
