most charmingly.

As the crops are laid by the farmers
are enjoying themselves immensely at
picnics and other festive occasions.
Never in the history of this country
have the farmer indulged in so much
frollicking. This speaks decidedly of
prosperity and good fellowship. No
one envies the good times of the farm
ers. .

In speaking of Sam Jones’ sermon at
Oxford, Justice Lamar said: “It was
striking in many senses. Parts of it
were like a Pullman palace sleeping
ear—capable of being hitched to any
train, going in any direction, at any
time—fitting anywhere, acting auto
matically and capable of emanating
from no brain other than tiiat of 'the
original Sam Jones.”
The farmers club of Stilesboro were

ley, t#e proprietor, last Friday night.

have declined to serve. They aro Mrs.
Fannie Conyers and Miss Mamie Ware,
both having accepted positions else
where. These ladies have a largo num
ber of friends ncre, who regret that
they will not have departments in our
schools for the next scholastic y -ar. Jn

open to applicants.
A Remarkable Family Group.
The photograph of one of the most
remarkable family gronpes that we
have ever seen was shown us a day
or so tigo by Mr. E. R. Gibbons, one
of liar tow county's most valued
citizens. The group eon ists of Mr.
Gibbons, four brothers and thesame
number of sisters. 'There would
have been ten in all had not one of
the sisters been too ill to sit with
the others for the photograph. The
"•hotograph was taken in Rocking
ham county, Ya., the old home Sf
ihe family, where a short while ago
they had a family reunion. The
youngest of the group is a pleas
ant faced lady of fifty-four years
and the oldest sister was eighty
years of age. The likenesses of
twin brothers appear and they are
as much alike as two peas can be.
Mr. Gibbons himself admits that he
cannot tell them apart. They live
in Missouri and are engaged in
farming. One of the brothers is a
Methodist minister, who was until
lately president of a flourishing uni
versity in California. Another of
the brothers and all of the sisters
reside near the old homestead. It
is seldom that such a remarkable
group is gotten together. Consid
ering the advanced age of most of
the members of the family and how
wide apart they reside it is hardly
possible that they will enjoy an
other such reunion.
A Delightful Social Occasion.
The entertainment given by I)r.
and Mrs. R. C. Miot, on Friday
evening last, at their beautiful
home on West Main street, is one
long to be remembered by all who
were go fortunate sis to attend. As
host and hostess Dr. and Mrs. Miot
cannot be excelled. The attend
ants began to put In their appear
ance about half past nine o’clock
and continued until ten when there
were ten or twelve couples, as fol
lows: Miss Jessie Smith and Tom
Wallace, Miss Ida Lou Milam and
Will Neatherland, Miss Hattie
Peacock and Gus Qulllian, Miss
Annie Stansell and Lee Garwood,
Miss Susie Young and Walter
Akerman, Miss Bessie Sproull, of
Rome, and Frank Wallace, Miss
Estili Shepard, of Atlanta, and
George Hall, Miss Fannie Bet Jones
and R. P, Morgan, Miss Fannie
Baldwin and R. C. Pentland, Miss
Minnie Baldwin and John Jacobs,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Milner, Will
Young, Miles Dobbins and Dr.
White.
The music began at 10 o’clock
and the young people tripped the
light fantastic toe until 11 when
they were all served to excellent
lemonade and cake, after which the
doctor passed a box of very tine
cigars. Such entertainments are
rarely given, hut it is he hoped in
tho near future that another even
ing as pleasant will be spent.
A llig Brick Company.
A brick, stone and tile company
is being organized, Mr. H. J. Blais
dell being the moving spirit in the
enterprise. It is to be capitalized
at $46,000 and only SB,OOO is needed
to complete the company.
The money raised was quickly
done, hut there now seems to he a
great drag in getting the remain
ing amount. The indifference of
some of our jieeple may be the cause
of us losing this important plant,
it would be a disgrace to the town
if it did.
