ELECTION KOll EON OS.
As will be seen by an advertise
ment of the county commissioners,
now running in this paper, there
w ill be tin election held in this coun
ty on Saturday, September 20t,h, to
determine whether or not bonds
shall be issued for the purpose of
building anew court house. Thu
amount of said bonds is to be thirty
thousand dollars, to bear iutcresjt at
a rate not exceeding five per cent,
por annum, interest payable an
nually—and payable as follows:
Five thousand dollars in five years,
five thousand dollars in leu years,
five thousand in fifteen years, und
liftmen thousand dollars in twenty
years. All of said bonds to be fully
paid off as above stated by the ex
piration of twenty years from date
of tissue. None of the bonds are to
be sold for less than par.
The holding of this election is in
accordance with the recommenda
tions of the last grand jury. To issue
the bonds it will require a two
thirds vote of the county.
The necessity for anew court
house is quite apparent to till. Sev
eral grarni juries have previously
recommended that it he built and
it is generally admitted that the
present place for holding court is
entirely inadequate for that pur
-1 ose.
There has been some opposition
to tiie building of anew court
house on account of the prevalent
idea that it would be done by direct
taxation. But, since the last grand
jury recommended that the Iwiiuis
be issued, payable as above stated,
the great majority of the people of
Bartow county are now in favor of
anew temple of justice.
All of the other cjunties around
as are building fine court houses.
Barit>w, the richest anti best county
of them all, should not be belli ml
her sisters in the matter of progress.
Besides being a matter of pride it is
also one of necessity.
The question is an important
one and it should be discussed and
settled with lairness ami without
prejudice. If anew court house is
Boeded the bonds should be issued
and if it is not needed the bonds
should be voted down. That is the
sum and substance of the whole
tiling. No outside issue should
come in and interfere with the final
disposition of this important ques
tion.
