Needs Attention. Hereafter when I hear people peaking of the paupers’ home as [he poor house,” I will know it is ightly called. Indeed it is poor a more ways than one. . The poor reatures who are inmates of this oor place are poor in health, poor , body and mind, poor in spirits, wr of bedding and clothing, or nything else that goes to make pthe comforts of life. One who has made a visit to the lace can readily see why the sick, fflicted and destitute of the county 3 struggle and rebel against being arried to the “poor house.” It is ie last resort with stricken and elpless humanity when they con inl to go to this place. In proper :rms it is simply a place of exis :nce and not a home. And why is all this true of the (auper home of Bartow county, hich prides herself on being one [ the richest counties in this em njre state of the south ? Some jffing is radically wrong and the Bors should be corrected by the Boper authorities. and if they will lot do so when their attention is Billed to them, then some other Beans should be found by which Be condition of these helpless peo- Be, would be improved. I The luxuries perhaps they do lot miss, as they know little or Bothing of them, but warm cloth- I. good bedding, nutritious food Md cleanliness are essentials to Be comfort and well being of hu- Banity in any class of life; so why Bou’.d these be denied the poor Bfortunates of our county ? Some Ble-bodied person should be em- Boyed to scald and scour their Boms, and wash their clothing as Bften as it becomes necessary to Beep them in good order. A coat 111 whitewas 1 occassionally would ive a much more inviting and leanly appearance to the premises. And the inmates certainly ought ) be allowed the privilege of rais ig enough poultry and eggs to ipply their table three or four mes a week at least, as change cm the coarse, common fare they M re now provided with. KINGSTON, After the heavy rain for a day and night it feels this p. m.. that we are on the verge of hog killing, and we can all have spare bones and back ribs intersperced with cracklin or shorten corn cake, souce, chitlens etc,, to sa nothing of sweet potatoes and possum. And that reminds me our city fathers have granted a truss on our city market and propose to as sess our butchers with a fifty dollar licence and that lboks like if we do not possess a fat pig or stall fed chickens, our tables will be rather thin on the meat line. Now laying all jokes aside we were all highly entertained by at tending the Methodist church Sun day and heard two fine sermons by the pastor, Rev. C. A. Jamison, who has been returned by confer ence with us. I perhaps could say a little more but the train is due in a few min utes and I must close with good wishes for the success of the Cou rant American and all its friends provided they work for the down fall of “King Alcohol” in old Bar tow and the state a£ large. St. Cecilians of Shorter College De- I' ETht Cartersville Audience. One of tlie most delightful mus ical treats the people of Carters ville have had an opportunity of enjoying in many a day was the concert given bv the St. Cecilians of Shorter College, of Rome, at the opera house last Friday night. I lie St. Cecilians are attendants at Shorter College and are music pupils of Mrs. Simmons.- They kindly came over to Cartersville at the instance of the Cherokee Club and gave the proceeds of the concert above their bare expenses to th*? library, and they were com plimented with a splendid audience. Those who were present feel better for having heard these bright and talented young artists. Miss Anne Worrill has a sweet, rich well trained voice and her singing sent a glow of ecstacy over all who heard her. Her singing has received deserved high com pliments wherever she nas been heard and she bids fair to rank with the most accomplished songs ters. Her “Cavatina Non Fu Sogno” was a severe test for com pass, but her rendition was without flaw. Mr. Will McWilliams, the young gentleman attache, proved an ap plause winner and his singing has been complimented on all sides. The piano playing of Miss Fret- 1 well was fine. Her strength of technique, lightness of touch and heartinessof expression were really wonderful. In the “Solos in Unison” t the voice-training received by each i was favorably emphasized, not the l least jar in melody being notice- ! able. Altogether, the visit of this cheery little company of mists was an event greatly enjoyed in Cartersville. The members were Misses Worrill, Brett, Fretwell, Patterson, Treadwell, Comer. Stall ings, Culpepper, Wagner, Mr. Mc- Williams. .Pneumonia Prevented.
