Nature Has Done a Great Deal for
Bartow County-
OLD CITIZEN FAVORS FACTORY-
Cotton Factories Pay Handsome
Dividends Wherever Located in
the South Would Pay Here.
Editors Courant American:
I was much pleased in reading
the communication of Judge J. M.
Neel, in your paper of the 15th
instant, advocating the building of
a cotton factory at this place. Bar
tow county has the natural advan
tages, both minerally and agricul
turally, to be the most prosperous
county in this state. Prior to the
civil war the comptroller general’s
reports showed that land in this
county was returned for taxation
at a higher average value than
that of any county in the state.
Where is she now? She is far be
hind a large part of the counties.
This county contains a greater va
riety of minerals than any county
in Georgia, if not in the United
States. With all our natural ad
vantages. what are we doing to
utilize them?
The first President Harrison ap
pointed Gen. Wadley Thompson,
of South Carolina, minister to
Mexico. While there, it is said
that Gen. Thompson wrote a book
on that county, in which he said
that there were 110 people on earth
for whom God had done so much
as He had for the Mexicans, and
that no people had done so little
for themselves. The same esti
mate can, to some extent, be attrib
uted to the people of 3artow coun
ty. Nature ha > done all for us
that any people could desire to be
come great and prosperous.
We should start and shake off j
our lethargy by building a factory, j
I believe that it has been fully :
demonstrated that all cotton fac- j
tories in country towns in this
and surrounding states, have paid j
handsome dividends. It cannot
be denied that no town or com
munity in this progressive age can
become prosperous without manu
facturing enterprises. All classes
of farmers, merchants, mechanics
and professional men are interested
in factories. Some will say that
we have not the money to build
factories. But is not the old adage
true, that “Where there is a will
there is a way?” It is my opinion
that farmers are more interested in
factories than any other class.
They give a market for many
things that a fanner can’t sell else
where. The farmers could greatly
assist in building a factory, iT they
were so disposed. Suppose every
farmer who owns land would con
sider himself a tenant and paying
the usual rent, would be the
amount he would have to pay rent
if lie was a renter into a cotton fac
tory, we could build a cotton fac
t Dry of considerable dimensions.
L,et all farmers near here sub
scribe, say one-fourth of their cot
ton crop, to the capital stock of a
cotton factory, and we would have
nq trouble with the cash subsetip-

Catarrh has become such a common
disease that a person entirely free from
this disgusting complaint is seldom met
with. It is customary to speak of Catarrh
as nothing more serious than a bad cold,
a simple inflammation of the nose and
throat. It is, in fact, a complicated and
very dangerous disease; if not at first, il
Very soon liecomcs so.
The blood is quickly contaminated by
the foul secretions, and the poison throng!
the general circulation is carried to al!
parts of the system.
Salves, washes and sprays are unsatis

does. It cleanses the blood of the poison
and eliminates from the system all catar
rhal secretions, and thus cures thoroughly
and permanently the worst cases.

COST OF ENGLISH ROYALTY.
Allowances on which All the Re
cipients Ought to Get Along.
The Prince of Wales draws $200,-
000 a year, and inadequate sum, in
the opinion of Chambers’ Journal,
considering the publis duiiec rele
gated to him consequent on the
practical withdrawal of the Queen
from public life. It is however,
supplemented by an annuity of
$50,000 yearly, divided among his
children. The Princess Royal,
now Dowager German Empress
still draws her $40,000 a year irotii
the British exchequer. The late
Duke of Edinburgh was voted
$125,000 a year when he came of
*ge. When he to the
dukedom Saxe-Coburg, one of the
wealthiest inheritances in Europe,
inconvenient questions were asked
in the house of commons as to the
reasonableness of continuing a
British annuity to one who had
practically become a foreign prince.
Protest became so threatening that
there was every prospect of the
government being deieated if they
persisted in defending the payment.
In this extremity a compromise
was arrived at. It was announced
that his royal bigness had gracious
ly foregone $75,000 a year, holding
on to toe ouu $50,000, a sum paid
.up to the date of his death.
The Duke of Connaught enjoys
his full annuity of $125,000 a year,
in addition to liis army pay. The
Duke of Cambridge’s annuity of
$60,000 a year is augmented in the
same direction. The queen’s three
daughters and the widpw of the
Duke of Albany each draw pen
sions of $30,000.
These payments foot up to $840,-
000 a year. Added to the $1,925,-
000 of the civil list, it completes a
sum of something over $2,500,000
a year passing through the Queen's
counting house as the national
subvention of British royalty.

Kingston has recently been stir

And grow weak and exhausted when not properly nour

The loss of nervous power is seen in the failing health and the
wasting form. It is felt in the aching head, the throbbing heart,
the irritability, indigestion, restlessness and loss of sleep. Re
build the worn-out nerves, rest the tired brain and add new fuel
to the vital fires with the best of all tonics, Dr. Miles’ Nervine.
“I never had anything do me so much good as Dr Miles’
Nervine. I had been suffering from blind piles for some time
and had lost so much blood that my nerves were in a very bad
condition. I bought a bottle of the Nervine on trial and it
did me so much good that I have since taken two more. The
result is my health has been wonderfully improved and I am
very thankful that I gave it a trial.”
