BRUTAL CRII
11 liETP;
Chinaman Assauhed and Rob’ and
T here Friday Night.
FOUR NEGROES ARRESTED.
Jim Broadnax, Who is Supposed
To be the Assassin Has Not
Been Captured.
Atlanta Constitution.
Quang Sing, a Chinese laundry
man of Marietta, was brutally and
perhaps fatally assaulted and rob
bed in his laundry about 9 or 10
o'clock last night. Before mid
night the authorities of Cobb
county h; and four negroes, two men
and two women, in jail, charged
with complicity in the crinfe, and
the Atlanta police had been noti
fied t keep a watchout for Jim
Broadnax, another negro who is
believed to be the assassin.
The exact time of the commis
sion of the crime is unknown. The
fftst that was known of the affair
was when the Chinaman crawled
into a poolroom, two doors from
his laundry, with his skull horriblv
crushed in several places and al
most dead. He managed to inform
those in the poolroom that his as
sailant had secured $25, and he
then became unconscious.
The wounded Chinaman was car
ried immediately to the office of
Dr. C- T. Nolan, where he was
given attention by Dr. Nolan and
Dr. G. Tennent. After that they
did not expect him to live until
this morning.
The news of the crime spread
rapidly, and created much excite
ment. A thorough search was im
mediately begun for the perpetra
tors of the deed, and it was only a
short time until the four above
mentioned negroes, were behind the
bars. The laundry is located near
the Atlanta, Knoxville and Nor
thern r tilroad depot,on Mill street,
and the scene of the crime showed
that the laundrvman and his as
sailant had engaged in a terrific
struggle.
The laundry was closed, and
Quang had retired when the as
sault occurred. An entrance was
forced into the place, and it is
presumed that the laundryman
was awakened by the noise. In
attempting to defend himself and
his money, he was dealt the ter
rible blows on the head with some
heavy instrument. It is thought
that iobbery alone prompted the
deed.
When the two negro girls .were
arrested the Chinaman’s pistol was
found in their possession, and it is
supposed that they stole it in order
to take away his means of defense,
knowing that the crime was to be
committed.
The two negro men were seen
during the afternoon peering into
the laundry and acting in a sus
picious manner. Broadnax was
employed by the Chinaman for
several years, and the crime bears
the appearance of having been com
mitted by some one who was ac
quainted with the details of the
laundry.
Quang .Sing has conducted a
laundry in Marietta for about
seven years, and was respected by
the citizens of the town. He is a
brother of Young King, who is lo
cated on Mitchell street, and who
is one of the best kuow r n Chinamen
in Atlanta.
Principles That Live-
Philar’e pliia Time*.
Mi. Cleveland has expressed the
opinion that the democratic pai tv
can command success by returning
to “recognized democratic princi
ples.” Mr. Bryan also declares
for democratic principles, “with
the confident belief that the peo
ple will soon return to the teach
ings of the fathers and to ‘he tra
ditions of the Republic.”
It is perhaps a mistake to dwell
too much upon the idea of “re
turning.” A living party does not

Young Women
The entry into womanhood is a
critical time for a girl. Little men
strual disorders started at that time soon
grow hjto fatal complications. That
female troubles are filling graveyards
proves this. Wine of Cardui estab
lishes a painless and natural menstrual
flow, when once this important func
tion is started right, a healthy fife will
usually fellow. Many women, young;
and oid, owe their lives to Wine of
Cardui. There is nothing like it to
give women freedom from pain and to
fit young women for every duty of life.

return; it goes ahead. The value
of sound principles is in their ap
plication to actual conditions. It
is probable that Mr. Cleveland
and Mr. Bryan would agree upon
die historic policy of the demo
cratic party, while their ideas of
present policy are divergent. Yet
each believes himself a true demo
crat.
This situation gives force to Mi.
Cleveland’s warning against “the
arrogation of superior party vir
tue.” It is a time, as he says, “for
sober thought, tolerant language
and fraternal counsels,” that will
serve to bring democrats together
in a common view and purpose,
and not for reading out of the party
either those who have followed its
banner under all conditionsor those
who have faltered under its recent
leadership.
Most of the divergence in the
interpretation of democratic doct
rine has come about under condi
tions that no longer exist or are
no longer paramount. The pres
ent political situation, at home and
abroad, affords abundant oppor
tunity for the application of demo
cratic principles on wnich there
can be no difference among demo
crats. There is no need foi the
party to turn back. There is need
for it to get together and stand
fast, ready when the time for ac
tion comes to go ahead.

TENNESSEE WOMAN
Killed by Her Recreant Husband in
California.
Los Angeles, Cal., Dec. 27. —
John W. Tinsley shot and killed
his wife on the street today and
then fired a bullet into his own
head, dying instantly. The bullet
thatj killed his wife entered the
left eye and penetrated the brain.
The couple were married at Vau-
Buren, Ark., January 2d, this year.
Tinsley represented himself as pos
sessed of property in Helena, Mont.,
to the value of $75,000. His wife
had S4OO cash and a house and lot
in Jackson, Tenn., valued at $2,-
500. This latter her husband in
duced her to sacrifice for si,Boo,
and five days after marriage they
came to Los Angeles 011 a honey
moon trip, the expenses of which
were defrayed by Mrs. Tinsley.
From here th_y went to Mineral
Wells, Tex., and August 28th,
reached Excelsior Springs, Mo.
There Tinsley induced his wife to
transfer to him tnc S7OO that re
mained of hc-r money and told her
he must go to Helena to settle up
his affairs. Alter his departure
she found that he had also taken a
diamond ring and stud valued at
S4OO. She received a telegram
from him later dated Los Angeles,
in which he acknowledged that he
j had deceived fier 111 regard to his
[ wealth, and that she would see
him 110 more. She followed him
here, but in the meantime he had
departed. Two weeks later he le
turned to Los Angeles and an ar
rangement was made whereby he
gave her a draft on an Arkansas
bank for $325 and promised to
make other reparation. She sent
the draft for collection and it was
returned with the statement that
money to Tinsley’s credit had been
withdrawn by telegraph.
On the 21 st of this month Mrs.
Tinsley filed suit against her hus
band in the superior court to re
cover the SI,OOO fraudulently ob
tained from her, and bitterness
over this suit and the troubles
leading up to it evidently caused
the double tragedy.
It is now alleged that Tinsley
had one other wife in Townsend,
Mont.
