A. iI. Stephens, in 1882. What is being done by our people to-1 wards a creditable exhibit at the Nat ional Exposition at Augusta? We should at least make a mineral exhibit, and those interested in the disposition of mineral lands, would find it greatly to their advantage to do this. Mr. Douglas Wikle, the commissioner, will take pleasure in aiding in the movement. Who wiil join him in this laudable enter prise? It is expected that Capt. W. A. Fuller, of Atlanta, and Mr. Jeff Cain, of this city, who were conductor and engineer respectively on the train out of Atlanta Saturday. April 12, 18(52, which was captured by James A. Andrews and his party at Rig Shanty, will be on the spe cial that leaves Chattanooga the 10th instant for Columbus, ()., where is to be held the G. A. U. reunion. The “General,” the old engine that pulled the train on the eventful trip of '62, will pull the spe cial. Something new in the line of mineral discovery is almost daily transpiring in our midst. A friend who stirs constant ly on our mineral leads, wishes to know whether any one is sufficiently interested in the manufacture of glassware to ex amine specimens of clear whitesandstone, hard or soft varieties, which lie thinks is adapted to such manufacturing, and has been used often for lining furnaces. If desired, the name of the person will be given by inquiry at this office. Anew iron ore bed has been opened out on the property of Messrs. It. M. and G. S. Pattillo, near the northern limits of town, that promises a copious yield of very fine ores. Only a small space has as yet been dug out, but a seemingly al most solid mass of ore has been touched. Owing to its favorable location for build ing sites, this property is already ex tremely valuable, but now that ore has been discovered in such near proximity to the railroad, it is vastly more so. Mr. J. R. Heyward returned from Mor ristown, N.J., last Monday. He went to accompany the remains of Rev. Sam uel Hall to Ins home for interment. Mr. Heyward informs us that the remains reached their destination in a most satis factory condition. The lamented minis ter’s features presented a life-like appear ance that surprised his friends, when they remembered that the body had been on the railroad for three days and nights. The body was embalmed by our friend W. C. Edwards, the undeitaker, who is remarkably successful in this branch of his business. Dr. Hall was greatly beloved at his home, and there was every evidence of sincere grief on the part of the people who had so long known and loved him. Ueady for Bids on Monday. A letter from Mr. Martin, of the Car tersville Steel and Furnace Cos., received thL morning, states that Dr. Pratt has so far progressed with his specifications and details for the construction of the furnaces, and the laying of the side-track that the company will be ready to re ceive bids on the work next Monday.
