C, Fletcher Walton, of the North Georgia Conference, spent Monday here, en route to the conference session at Mill edgeville. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. H. Low, of New Orleans, are in the city, called hither by the sad death of their daughter, Mrs. J. n Harris, jr. Bartow Leake, Esq., announces himself ft candidate for alderman. He is a live Popular citizen, and will do the clean thing if elected. Cotton is rolling in lively this week. Our buyers pay Atlanta prices, and Car tersville continues to grow in favor as a cotton market. Who will have the honor of furnishing the editor’s Christmas turkey this year? Here is a chance for some patriot to be lifted to undying fame. Rapt. Sim Munford has moved into bis * 1 -ant new residence on Casaville street. His pleasant family will prove quite an addition to Cartersville society. Don't wait until time for registration *' past, and then kick because you can’t v °te in the city election. Aubrey is putting 011 airs, and stepping higher than coui on account of the arrival of a lively young lady at his house. He says bosses the whole establishment al re ady, Hr. W. W. Gilbert, from North Caro iin a, has bought a handsome lot on Cass vdle street, of Rev. J. T. Norris, and will h’oce.'d at once to build a comfortable dwelling house on it for his own use. He w ‘l! soon enter business in Cartersville. Tax Collector Linn has an important noticeia this week’s issue, to which we invite special attention. The time for registering for the county election ends on the 22d of this month. See that you register before that time. Head the notice. There is more building goingon in Car tersville than at any previous time in ten years; and the probability is that more houses will be built here within the next twelve months than have been in as many years past. All kinds of houses are in demand, and as the work goes on the demand increases. Next Wednesday is the day for the election of mayor and aldermen. Re member it, and vote for live, progres sive, and safe men, to manage our affairs. Now is no time for slow coaches —we must have men of public spirit, enterprise and go-ahead-ativeness, if we would not sit down again and sleep over our interests while other towns are up and doing. Only 35 cts. for a good corset at the Bargain store. A lively party went from Emerson last Tuesday to see “Bill Nye” at the Opera House in Atlanta, and had a most en joyable time. The following composed the party: Misses Mina Barber, Maud Markham, May Markham and Minnie ►Stegall, of Emerson, and Messrs. Edwin C. Black, of Boston, H. and J. Joues, of Emerson, F. G. McCandless aud Wm. H, Wikle, of Cartersville. The ladies tell us there is to be another spelling bee about the 20th, with oyster coupons. A class of married ladies will spell against a class of married gentle men, and the young folks will be divided in an interesting way. It is suggested that a prize be given the best speller, and also the poorest speller. Several new and attractive features will be provided, and a better time than ever is promised those who attend. Don’t miss the grand bargains in hand kerchiefs, at the Bargain store. A most delightful thanksgiving service was held at the Methodist church in this city last Thursday evening. A splendid and appropriate sermon was delivered by Prof. Stewart, of Centenary College, Cleve land, Tenn, A number of special songs and anthems had been prepared by the choir, and the music was a most enjoya ble feature of the occasion. A collection was taken for the benefit of the poor, and a handsome sum was raised. If Mose Scheuer w asn’t such a red hot Democrat, and Bro. Harrison would listen to us, we’d recommend him for a position in the New York Custom House, as general searcher for goods smuggled in b,v female immigrants. This because of the dexterity with which he recently unwound a bolt of calico, which a colored female had stolen and concealed under her bustle. Wikle, formerly of this county, but for the past sixteen years in charge of the press rooms of the Macon Telegraph, lias decided to go into the manufacture of roller composition at Atlanta. He is one of the finest press men in the South, and by long years of actual experiment, has perfected a com position that is the very best, and the fraternity’ will be glad to know that they can procure this important article so near at home, aud from a man in posi tion to guarantee its quality. Menkee, the photographer, who is already well and favorably known to the people of Cartersville, will be here to establish a gallery about the 15th of this month, and desires us to let his many friends know the fact.
