Peculiar Method*.
The aphorism that “all is fair in war,”
seems to be the guiding stfir of those
whose aim it is to attract the reader’s
attention in the latter-day newspapers.
In the strife which has followed, the
art ot advertising has bee!) greatly
changed from what it was a few years
ago. Formerly, the casual mention of
the merits of an artiele was all that was
necessary to attract attention, hut
when the advertising columns of the
pajnrs lu'catne crowded, the reader of
the newspaper soon realized that too
much time would be consumed in reading
all of them, and, as a result, those col
umns were often times skipped altogether.
It was then that ad vertising developed
into a science—for the preparation of
advertising mutter which will attract
public attention is a task which, nowa
days, requires a degree of tact and skill
which not everyone possesses. The
modern advertiser, aware of the public
disposition to hurriedly pass over the
ordinary advertisements, has called to
his assistance all conceivable ingenious
devices of the printer s art which will
tend to render his advertisement attrac
tive to the reader.
Peculiar methods are often employed—
as is usual in the case of the extensive
advertising which is done in behalf of
Warner’s Safe Cure, the noted discovery
for all diseases of the kidneys and disor
ders arising therefrom.
What appears to the ordinary reader
as an inviting article of current news is
discovered upon perusal to be an inter
esting article which impresses the fact
upon the reader’s mind that kidney
disease is the original cause of most
lung, brain, heart and nervous disorders
and that those disorders are not disease
itself, but only symptoms of a disease
which can be success ally treated by the
use of Warner’s Safe Cure, which will re
move the primary cause and thereby re
store other affected organs ton vigorous
and healthy state.
In thin instance 1 , the advertiser, by pe
culiar means, succeeds in attracting the
reader's attention and not only is the
name of the advertised article impressed
upon the mind, hut also the purposes
for which its use is adapted. Besides
achieving the advertiser’s purpose, this
method of advertising is a means ot
placing much valuable information in
t lie hands of many who otherwise would
very probably remain ignorant upon a
subject of great importance.
Modern advertising lias become a pro
fitable field of employment and no large
business house is longer complete with
out a competent advertising bureau
attached.
What will cure the worst case of dys

petite and increased digestion? What
will cure general debility and give anew
lease of life? What will dispel nervous
depression and low spirits? What will
restore exhausted mothers to full
strength? What will strengthen nerves
and muscles? What will enrich the

energy? What will prevent chills and
fever and other effects of malarial poi

to know this.
The passenger receipts of the Western
& Atlantic Railroad company, for the
month of December, ISMS, were greater
than for any other December within five
years. The Florida business was dticid
edly less, by reason of the fact that the
quarantine was hot raised in Jackson
ville until during the month of Decem
ber, and the through Cincinnati and
Jacksonville sleeping car lines were not
therefore reestablished until December
23d. Still the increase in the local traffic
was so great as to give the road a net
increase in the passengerearnings for the
month. This is indeed a very compli
mentary showing for the W. A A. to be
able to make.
For nearly halt a century Ayers Cherry
Pectoral has been the most popular
cough remedy in the world. The con
stantly increasing demand for this rem
edy proves it to be the very beet specific
for colds, coughs, and all diseases of the
throat and hours.
AtCedartown a third rail is being laid
along the track of the East and West
railroad, which will enable cars of both
broad and narrow gauges to run over
its line to the new line which is being
built by the Polk County Mining Com
pany from their ore beds to intersect the
East and West railroad 1% miles from
Cedartown. This new track, being also
a three-railed track, will enable cars ol
both gauges to run out to the beds for
ore and all transfers of this heavy article
of freight will thus be avoided.
Is Prickly Ash Bitters good for any

Dodge City, Kas., says: “For three
years I suffered from a disease that my
physicians pronounced incurable. My
friends had given me up to die, when 1
was induced to try your remedy. I took
it for three months and have gained 82

Mr. U. M. Brannon tells of his remark
able farming. He raised no cotton, but
with one ton of guano and home com
post, he made and gathered sixty-seven
cart loads of corn, and, he thinks, three
hundred bushels of peas, and made plen
ty of syrup and a large crop of pota
toes. He made this bountiful crop with
his two small boys.—Statesboro Eagle.
That Tired Feeling
Jttiicts nearly every one in the spring.
The system having become accustomed
to the bracing air of winter, is weakened
by the warm days of the changing sea
son, and readily yields to attacks of dis
ease. Hood’s Sarsaparilla is just the
medicine needed. It tones and builds up
every part of the body, and also expels
all impurities from the blood. Try it
this season.

The Teacher

medicine is remarkably beneficial. Bo

Every spring and fall I take a num

Miss Thirza L. Crerar, l’almyrsp Md.
“My daughter, twelve years of age,
has suffered for the past year from
General Debility.
A few weeks since, we began to give
her Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. Her health has
Sreatly improved.” —Mrs. Harriet H.

‘‘About a year ago I began using Ayer’s
Sarsaparilla as a remedy for debility
and neuralgia resulting from malarial
exposure in the army. I was in a very

saparilla, with occasional doses of Ayer’s
Pills, have greatly improved my health.
