A NAMELESS CASE.
My ca -*• has been a very carious one for about
thirteen years. At intervals of abont one week I
would 1 attacked with peels of severe and most
excruciating pain, always commencing in the re
gion of my kidneys. The pain would then go up
wards and affect my body and head, and seemed
to (e-netrate my very eye-balls.en*atiMg the most
intense suffering, lasting about eight hours each
sped.
i resorted to all kinds of medicine without bene
fit. .Several doctors treated my case, tint none
gave relief. I finally used B. B. B. as an experi
ment, and to my otter astonishment all paiu and
suffering vanished after using three doses. To
the present time 1 have used three bottles, and
not a pain has ever returned Ido not know
what was the mrftt*-r, neither could my physician
name the complaint. The B. It it. acted finely
and powerfully upon ni.v kidneys; my appetite
has been splendid and my constitution built np
rapidly. R. Trio MAS.

Rev. R. M. l'ickens, President of the
Methodist Protestant Church of South
Carolina, writes from Greenville:
“About four years ago 1 was attacked
with Yvhat the physicians pronounced
neuralgic rheumatism,accompanied with
erysipelas. My appetite failed me en
tirely, and I had an intermitting pulse
and very irregular pulsations of tlie
heart. A terrible pain soon came into
my chest and shoulders, and I became
so helpless that I could attend to no
business at all. The pains were mova
ble, and would sometimes pass from one
part of my body to another. Finally
the erysipelas broke out on my left hand
and arm, and produced much swelling.
I was for eighteen months afflicted in
in this way, and of course used a great
many kiudt? ot medicine, but nothing
gave me relief. Friends finally persuaded
me to try Swift's Specific. I noticed a
decided improvement while taking the
first bottle. 1 continued its use until I
had taken about one dozen bottles,
Yvhen I found myself sound and Yvell
again, with no sign of disease left except
a stiffness in m\ hand, a result of the

A Preacher's Sound Sense.
Rev. Dr. Marquis, of Chicago,
I get sick of tfi is namby-pamby Miss
Nancyism that loses sight of the punish
ment of crime in its sympathy for the
criminal. When it comes to dethroning
luyv and setting aside its penalty and en
throning in its stead a weak and sense
less sentimentalism that would say to
every scoundrel in creation, “The law is
only made to threaten; it never Yvas
meant to strike,” then I say that such
teaching and such conduct is but the
bastard counterfeit of Christianity, and
it is at war with every principle of genu
ine Christianity.
It Should be Generally Known
that the multitude of diseases of a scrofu
lous nature generally proceed from a tor
pid condition of the liver. The blood be
comes inquire because the liver does not
act properly and work off the poison
from the system, and the certain results
are blotches, pimples, eruptions,
swellings, tumors, ulcers, and kindred
affections or settling upon the lungs and
poisoning their delicate tissues, until
ulceration, breaking down, and consump
tion is established. I)r. Pierce's “Golden
Medical Discovery” will, by acting upon
the liver and purifying the blood, cure all
these diseases.

Southern Pressed Hay.
Atlanta Southern Cultivator.]
How many readers of the Southern
Cultivator remember Helper’s ‘lmpend
ing Crisis,’ a book that made not a little
stir in the unhappy days that preceded
hostilities? In this book it was shown
that the grass crop of the Norfh exceeded
in value the cotton crop of the South.
How long will it be before the grass crop
of the South exceeds in value its cotton
crop? .Not very long, likely. Manufac
turers of hay presses unite in saying that
their Southern trade is increasing with
astonishing rapidity. One manufactu
rer, who has been in this business for al
most thirty years, recently told me that
lie had sold six times as many presses in
Texas this year as he sold that state last
year. The trade in these presses is in
creasing almost as fast in other South
ern States. More hay presses are being
manufactured in the South. That any
part of the South should raise so much
hay that it had a considerable surplus
for other markets, would seem improba
ble twenty years ago; yet the demand
for presses shows that many Southern
localities are raising more hay than is
needed for home consumption.
Common Sense
Should be used in attempting to cure
that very disagreeable disease, catarrh.
As catarrh originates in impurities in the
blood, local applications can do no per
manent good. The com in on-sense meth
od of treatment is to purify the blood,
and for this purpose there is no prepara
tion superior to Hood's Sarsaparilla.
That this peculiar medicine does cure
catarrh is shown by the many testimo
nials from people who have found relief
upon using it when till others had failed.

WHAT
AILS
YOU?
Do you feel dull, languid, low-spirited, life
less, and indescribably miserable, both physi
cally and mentally; experience a sense of
fullness or bloating after eating, or of “gone
ness,” or emptiness of stomach in the morn
ing, tongue coated, bitter or bad taste in
mouth, irregular appetite, dizziness, frequent
headaches, blurred eyesight, “floating specks”
before the eyes, nervous prostration or ex
haustion, irritability of temper, hot Hushes,
alternating with chilly sensations, sharp,
biting, transient pains here and there, cold
feet, drowsiness after meals, wakefulness, or
disturbed and unrefreshing sleep? constant,
indescribable feeling of dread, or of impend
ing calamity?
If you have all, or any considerable number
of these symptoms, you are suffering from
that most common of American maladies—
Bilious Dyspepsia, or Torpid Liver, associated
with Dyspepsia, or Indigestion. The more
complicated your disease has become, the
greater the number and diversity of symp
toms. No matter what stage it has reached,
Dr. Pierce’s (.olden Medical Discovery
will subdue it, if taken according to direc
tions for a reasonable length of time. If not
cured, complications multiply and Consump
tion of the Lungs, Skin Diseases, Heart Disease,
Rheumatism, Kidney Disease, or other grave
maladies are quite liable to set in and, sooner
or later, induce a fatal termination.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Dis
covery acts powerfully upon the Liver, and
through that great blood-purifying organ,
cleanses the system of all blood-taints and im
purities, from whatever cause arising. It is
equally efficacious in acting upon the Kid
neys, and other excretory organs, cleansing,
strengthening, and healing their diseases. As
an appetizing, restorative tonic, it promotes
digestion and nutrition, thereby building up
both flesh and strength. In malarial districts,
this wonderful medicine has gained great
celebrity in curing Fever and Ague, Chills and
Fever, Dumb Ague, and kindred diseases.
