The Con stitution says “it is cruel to send men from Georgia to Albany to serve their terms, and it is equally cruel to throw them into crowded county jails. Wehave seen some of the effects of this in Atlanta, when* incarceration has amounted to a death penalty. Only the other day a I'nited States Judge in Georgia dis charged a number of prisoners rather than commit them to the inclemency of a county jail, and this Judge is in favor of building a United States prison in Geor gia.” This may Is* true enough; but isn't it quite also true that Georgia should abol ish her infernal State prison system, be fore sheenters pleas against the “cruelty” of sending Georgia jail birds to a cold climate? The leasing of prisoners is not merely cruel, it is a prolific parent of crime; the Georgia stockades ant every one of them schools, where crime is sys tematically taught to,the youugercon victs, who are herded with hardened, chiouic criminals. While it is true that Governor Gordon has done and is doing what lie can under the law, to modify and render less barbarous this abomina tion and disgrace, it still remains true that tin* system itself, its motive and ad ministration, form a burning blot on the fair name of the State, Cur* for Files JL Itching Piles are known by moisture like perspiration, producing a very disa greeable itching atter getting warm This form as well as Blind, Bleeding, and protruding Piles, yeild at once to tlie ap plication of Dr Bosanko’s Pile Reme y, which acts directly upon the parts affect ed, absorbing tlie tumors, allaying the in tense itching and effecting a permanent cure 50 cents Address The Dr Bosan ko Medicine Cos., Piqua, O. Probably no application of science is advancing more rapidly than photogra phy. Among recent appliances tire a de tective camera in the form of a watch, with a charm to hold a supply of minia ture dry plates, and a telescopic camera in which distant objects are brought near by telescopic aid and photographed. Modern dry plates have made the camera quite available at night, and'exquisite pictures are now taken by moonlight even by starlight. Common Sense Should be used in attempting to cure that very disagreeable disease, catarrh. As catarrh originates in impurities in the blood, local applications can do no ]>er mauent good. The common-sense meth od of treatment is to purify the blood, and for this purpose there is no prepara tion superior to Hood's Sarsaparilla. That this peculiar medicine does cure catarrh is shown by the many testimo nials from people who have found relief upon using it when all others had failed. A book containing statements ot cures sent on receipt of two-cent stamp, by C. J. Hood & Cos., Lowell, Mass. novl7-lin The West is being built uj> by adver tising, and there are portions of the South that will have to be developed in the same way. Here tire some figures that will furnish some idea of the amount of money spent in advertising the West and how it is spent: The people of Tun con, Arizona, by a public subscription, buy 8,000 copies of the local paper every month "for the purpose of sending it abroad, and in addition pay S2OO a month for the expense attending “writ ing np’’ of their city; Lamar, Col., $2,- 1)00 for a pluimphlet and $1,500 fora write up in the local press. The. Monitor, of Fort Scott, Kansas, is paid $7,000 for talking up the advantages of that city. Hutchinson, Kansas, claims to pay the News SIO,OOOO for running a morning palter, and Newton does better b.v subscribing $15,000. In General Debility, Finacintion. Consumption, and Wasting in Children, Scott’s Emulsion of Pure Cod Liver Oil with Hypophosphites j g a most valuable food and medicine. It creates an appe itiiite for food, strengthens the nervous system, and builds up the body Please read: “I tried Scott’s Emulsion on a young man whom Physicians at times had given up. Since lie began using the Emulsion, his Cough has ceased, gained flesh and strength, and from all apftear anees his life will be prolonged many years. 1 have been in Hospital Service for the past twenty years, and never have used any preparation with greater satisfac tion.”—lohn Sullivan, Hospital Stew ard Reform School,Morganza, Pa. nl7ltn Pneumonia Kxplaineil. ft is generally supposed that pneumo nia is due to the accidental penetration of ejtccitic microbes into the system, but the observations of M. .Jaoeond,a French student of the subject, show rhat the dis ease really results from the development under favorable conditions of microbic germs permanently present in the sys tem. A chief condition of such develop ment is a sudden chill, which explains the frei|uent coincidence of lung affections with abrupt changes of temperature. Mrs. Noseup had always contended that her husband’s tobacco habit was a vile and injurious one. “There, said Mr Noseup. turning from his scientific journal, “it says here that there are no microbes to be found in “That's where the microbe shows his good sense, Mr. Noseup.”—Chicago News. „ v mtle tire in quickly troililen out Which, being suffered, rivers cannot quench.” Procrastination may rob you of time, buT bv increased diligence you ctin make 1 1111 the loss; but if it rob you of life the loss is irremediable. Y., has afforded a vast experience in nicely adapt ing and thoroughly testing remedies for the cure of woman’s peculiar maladies. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription is the outgrowth, or result, of this great and valuable experience. Thousands of testimo nials, received from patients and from physi cians who have tested it in the more aggra vated and obstinate cases which had baffled their skill, prove it to be the most wonderful remedy ever devised for the relief and cure of suffering women. It is not recommended as a “cure-all,” but as a most perfect Specific for woman’s peculiar ailments. Asa powerful, invigorating tonic, it imparts strength to the whole sj’stem, and to the womb and its appendages in particular. For overworked, “worn-out,” “run-down,” debilitated teachers, milliners, dressmakers, seamstresses, “shop-girls,” house keepers, nursing mothers, and feeble women generally, Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription is the greatest earthly boon, being unequaled as an appetizing cordial and restorative tonic. Asa soothing and strengthening nervlue, “Favorite Prescription” is une qualed and is invaluab.e in allaying and sub duing nervous excitability, irritability, ex haustion, prostration, hysteria, spasms and other uistressing, nervous symptoms com monly attendant upon functional and organic disease of the womb. It induces refreshing sleep and relieves mental anxiety and de spondency. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription Is a legitimate medicine, carefully compounded by an experienced and skillful physician, aud adapted to woman's delicate organization. It is purely vegetable in its composition and perfectly harmless in its effects in any condition of the system. For morning sickness, or nausea, from whatever cause arising, weak stomach, indigestion, dys pepsia and kindred symptoms, its use, in small doses, will prove very beneficial. “ Favorite Prescription ” is a posi tive cure for the most complicated and ob stinate eases of leucorrhea, excessive flowing, painful menstruatun, unnatural suppressions, prolapsus, or falling of the womb, weak back, female weakness,” anteversion, retroversic i, bearing-down sensations, chronic congestion, inflammation and ulceration of the womb, in flammation, pain and tenderness in ovaries, accompanied with “ internal heat.” Asa regulator and promoter of func tional action, at that critical period of change from girlhood to womanhood, “Favorite Pre scription ” is a perfectly safe remedial agent, and can produce only good results. It is equally efficacious and valuable in its effects when taken for those disorders and derange ments incident to that later and most critical period, known as “ The Change of Lite." “Favorite Prescription,” when taken in connection with the use or Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery, and small laxative doses of Dr. Pierce’s Purgative Pellets (Little Liter Pills), cures Liver. Kidney and Bladder diseases. Their combined use ulso removes blood taints, und abolishes cancerous and scrofulous humors from the system. “Favorite Prescription ” is the only medicine for women, sold by druggists, under a positive guarantee, from the manu facturers, that it will give satisfaction in every case, or money will be refunded.
