THE LADIES CALL.

by m Large Number of
the Fair lines.
Notwithstanding the bad weather a
large number of the ladies of the city
accepted the invitation of the Courant-
American to visit the office last Satui*
day afternoon.
This was the first opportunity many of
the ladies ever had to visit a printing
establishment, and it was really a treat
to show them how their weekly paper
was printed. They seemed quite inter
ested in the woik that was going on, and
although many of them would insist on
calling the lArge steam press a “pretty”
or “nice” engine, they evinced a surpris
ing knowledge of the business. Under
the smiles of the fair ones the engine and
presses worked their best.
The Courant-American appreciated the
visits and begs a repetition of the same
whenever an opportunity occurs.

of a newspaper to be distributed in Eng
land. One page of this paper will be
taken by citizens of Cartersville for the
purpose of advertising the resources of
Bartow county.
Col. Stovall .said, in a conversation
with a reporter of the Courant-Ameki
can: “The capital of Europe cannot
fail to be attracted to Cartersville and
surrounding country when they know
more of what wonderful results can be
obtainedby the use of money.”
The directors of the Sam Jones Female

THE COMING EVENT.
The La lies’ Bazaari* the Attraction for
Next Week.
The ladies of the Episcopal church will
have their bazaar on Monday and Tues
day next as originally contemplated. It
will be opened at (5 o’clock p. in. on Mon
day, the 13th inst., and again from 2
to 5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon and from
Gtoll o’clock Tuesday evening at the
old stand of Mr. W. C. Edwards, on the
corner of Main and Erwin streets.
The interior of the building will be
transformed into a scene of beauty, con
sisting of booths of every kind at which
will be sold all kinds of articles for the
home, both useful and ornamental.
Every imaginable little comfort has been
cunningly devised and made as beautiful
as could be conceived by the most culti
vated and exquisite taste and will be
sold cheap. There will be a flower bower
presided over by one of Cartersvilie’s
most beautiful girls where will be sold
lovely bouquets and bonbons. There
will be a postofflee at which every one
will be sure to call for their valentines;
also an archery tree where every one wilt
be expected to demonstrate that the art
of William Tell still liveth. Amid, around
and about all these, as well as many
other attractions, flitting about like
fairies will be all of Cartersville’s prettiest
girls in full evening dress to wait upon
the customers. Indeed, the hall will ]ire
sent a picture not to be seen this side of
fairy land. Each night a most elegant
supper will be served, the menues being
such as to tempt the most fastidious
epicure and handed by waitresses as fair
as the flowers. During all this time the
most lovely music will be furnished by
one of the most accomplished if not the
most accomplished musician ever in Car
tersville.
A lovely doll which can be seen at Miss
Shockley’s store will be voted to the most
popular little girl, and judging from the
candidates who art out this will be a very
exciting race.
The ladies of the church have done
everything that skill and energy can do
and everything that art and taste could
suggest to make this the most attractive
church fair ever had in this town and
have undoubtedly succeeded. They de
serve now to be richly rewarded for their
industry and especially for their cause.
No admission fee will be charged at the
door. This little churqh is now strug
gling heroically to get again upon its feet
and should be lent a helping hand.

A Child’* Delight.
When a child begins to read it always
becomes delighted with a newspaper be
cause it reads of names and things with
which it is familiar audit will progress ac
cordingly. A uewspajier in one year is a
quarter’s schooling to a child. The father
must consider that information is con
nected with advancement. The mother of
a family being one of its heads and having
a more immediate charge of the children,
should herself be instructed. A mind occu
pied becomes fortified against the ills of
life and braced for any emergency. Child
dren amused by reading or studying are
of course more considerate aud more
easily managed.

Editor Courant-American : The ex
istence of two committees, each claiming
to represent the Democratic party of
Bartow naturally excites apprehension
of strife and confusion when nominations
for the various offices to be filled this
year be made. Would it not be well for
the conservative representatives of these
possibly conflicting elements to begin
now to consider the ways aud means by
which the committees may be amalga
mated, or an entirely new committee re
elected without regard to the late guber
natorial contest? If such action is de
ferred until the contention of opposing
candidates has arisen to fever heat, it
will be but the more difficult to arrive at
a satisfactory solution of the impend
ing difficulty. Let us have peace. **
