Advertising.
The following, clipped from one of our
exchanges, has a pith and point and
practical force which commends it to a
careful reading:
A commercial exchange, the Grocery
World, lias been watching the successful
man of trade in the large cities and has
come to the conclusion that they have
gone from obscurity to notoriety, from
poverty to wealth, namely, by judicious
advertising in newspapers. Advertising
is something like a watch, you must keep
it going if you wish it to perform its duty.
As long as you keep it wound up and the
machinery in proper repair, the wheel
plods on and grinds out the time as
regularly as the sun rises and sets.
It pays to advertise your business in
every conceivable manner; let people
know where you are, what you have to
sell, and they will remove obstacles in
your way.
Every time the minute hand on the
clock makes a jump the pushing business
man comes to the front with some new
improvement, which the world only hears
of through odvertising; an improveil cof
fee pot, rat trap, etc. Who knows but
that in the next fifty years coffee-pots
will be made that shut up like a jack
knife, or that rat traps will be used as
fire-scranes, etc.
We admire the gushing, pushing, rush
ing business men who advertise freely,
and point by their actions, the youth in
to paths of worth v exertion. Such men
can't be kept back, chain them and they
burst the chains asunder, and we are ol
the opinion that it is not possible for
them to stop themselves at times, when
they fairly get out into the channel.
People begin to understand them and
their methods and they hurry them
along faster than they would otherwise
go, perhaps, while the proprietor of the
store around the corner, “Micawber”
like, is waiting for something to turn up.
Every advertisement helps, and so it
does, you cannot expect to meet with
marked success in business without em
bellishing the newspapers with your ad
vertisement as well as your show windows.
Remember it is the men who are never
idle who help themselves, and the man
who never advertises helps no one.
Unfold the hands and wake the eyes,
Don’t be content to rust;
But join the men who advertise,
And let that be your -‘trust.”

THROAT AND LUNGS „
U. S. Senator Joseph E. Brown, of

Atlanta, Ga., Feb llth, 1888
To the H. 11. C. Cos , Gentlemen:
I have been troubled with Bronchitis,
and occasional sore throat, with severe
cough, for a number of years past, and I
have tried a great many of the most popu
lar remedies known to the public, or the
profession, some mitigating the disease
more aud more less.
I was finally induced to try the prepar
ation known as the “Hunnicut’s Throat
and Lung Cure,’ which I have u&ed f r e
quently of late, and I fiud it a most ex
cellent medicine.
Indeed, I do not hestitate to say that I
derived more benefit from it than I have
from any or all the other preparations
In case of Sore Throat it is especially
fine.
When in that condition, 1 sip about a
teaspoon fill at a time every hour or so,
keeping thetluoat lubricated with it, with
very satisfactory results. It has another
excellence in my case—it never produces
nausea, but radier acts as a tonic.

Southern Immigrants.
. The recent meeting of the Southern im
migration convention has attracted
wide spread attention and much favora
ble comment. The New York Sun says:
“Ho for the West” has been the cry of
the majority of the mighty host that
have come here from Europe during the
past forty years. If the Southern pro
moters of immigration can turn it to
“Ho for the South,” a magical change
will be experienced in their States before
the opening ot the twentieth century.”
The Brooklyn Times has even rosier
hopes:
“The South will have considerable im
migration from the North and directly
from Europe for the next few years, be
cause it deserves it. It has a fineclimate,
fertile and cheap land and vast mineral
wealth. And the development of this
wealth and influx of Northern people will
inevitably in time break the solid South,
and turn the votes of at least a portion
of its States to the Republican party for
the sake of the tariff.”
In the meantime it will take f 1,000
from every turn of 5,000 inhabitants to
carry out the work of the convention.
What is Macon going to do about it?

their skill, prove it to be the most wonderful
remedy ever devised for the relief and cure of
suffering women. It is not recommended as a
“cure-all,” but as a most perfect Specific for
woman’s peculiar ailments.
Asa powerful, invigorating tonic,
it imparts strength to trie whole system,
