Mis. H. P. Camp, who had been stop
ping at the St. {James for some weeks, left
lot her hotne in Athens, Ga., last "Sunday

Mr. T. J. YoUtaans, of Atlanta, was in
town fast I riday. Mr. Youmans has many
friends in Cattersville, who are always
glad to see him.
1 he Reading (. lub will meet at the resi
dence of Mrs. J. R. Parrott next Tuesday
evening. It is hoped that every member
W’ill be out. An interesting meeting is
expected.
Henry Biles, who was struck on the
head with a rock and severely hurt about
two weeks ago, is recovering rapidly-.
Alex Burge, the negro who struck him, is
still at large.
Mr. J. JB. Gardner, of Adairavilie, and
Miss Margie Hicks, of Chattooga county,
were married on October 23d. Mr. Gard
ner is a prominent merchant of Adairsville,
and Miss Hicks is one of Chattooga’s most
accomplished ladies. "We wish them joy.

Our office was enlivened on yesterday
morning by the presence of Mr. W. T>,
Christy, who is on a short visit to rela
tives. He is one of the best printers in
Georgia, and at this time is foreman of one
of the best newspapers in the state, the

The Cartersville American comes to
W in a new r dress this week, and is one of
the spiciest, most readable journals on our
exchange list. The trade issue of the
American, of last week, was creditable to
its genial proprietors, and the people of
Cartersville may well feel proud of such

James L. Colbert, of Stilesboro, will
offer for sale at public outcry on Tuesday,
November 11th. 1884, all his household
and kitchen furniture, his stock, his corn
and oats and wheat and fodder. If you
want to make a good trade, go to this sale
next Tuesday. Mr. Colbert will move to
Florida shortly, and he w ants to convert
his property into cash.

The tenth census report give us some
interest!ug statistics.
Iu the year 1880 Bartow county had
18,COO citizens, on iuercoao c*f 0,024 m
ten yearn.
Allatoona had 778 in the year 1880;
Cartersville district, including the town,
5,050; the town alone had 2,037 inhabi
tants; Pine Log district had 1,120; Eu
liailee district had 3,425; Euharlee town
had 24; Cassville district had 1,943; Tay
lorsville town hud 95; Adairsville district
had 1,559; Adairsville town had 391; Lit
tle Prairie had 884; Kingston district
had 1,908; Kingston town hud 483; Stamp
Creek had 522; Wolf Pen had 901.
Of these 12,419 were whites and 0,271
were colored.
The population was almost entirely
natives; there being only sixty foreign
born people in the year 1880. Of these
foreign born six came from British Ameri
ca, eight from Engluud and Wales, tour
teen from Ireland, seven from Scotland,
thirteen from the German Empire, one
from France and two Sweden and Nor
way.
. Of the native, 1,907 were born in South
Carolina; 575 in North Carolina; 355 in
in Alabama; 266 in Virginia; 378 in Ten*
lessee.
The male population was 9,130; the
female population 9.500.
Between the ages of five and sever,
teen, inclusive, males 3,058, females 3,-
151. Twenty-one years old and upward
3,934, males which represents the voting
population of Bartow county.
Bartow had 1,850 f aims, representing
91,325 acres of improved land, with a to
tal value of 82,102,212- Her vegetable
productions for that year, were 358,-
101 bushels of corn; 81,801 ul oats; 952
of rye; 131,935 of wheat. Value of or
chard products $8,290; 492 tons of hay;
10,111 bales of cotton; 3,537 bushels of
Trisli potatoes; 9,744 pounds of tobacco.
Bartow had 1,290 horses; 1,783 mules;
2,667 milch cows; 3,517 sheep and 14,475
hogs.
Bartow had sixtv-thvee manufacturing
establishments with a capital of $400,730,
employing 285 males over sixteen years
of age, twenty-five females and twenty
seven children with a pay roll of $57,872,
during the year.
Bartow has an assessed valuation on
real estate of $2,014,814, and personal
personal property $1,244*976.
The state tax was $14,403; county tax
$11,409; city town and village was $3,-
682; total $29,494.
In Georgia there are 1,747 clergymen;
1,432 lawyers, 3,633 teachers: 175 jour
nalists; 205 dentists; 1,995 physicians
and surgeons; 2,072 civil officials; 284,-
060 agricultural laborers, 6,808 clerks,
salesmen and accountants; 7,609 trades
and dealers; 1,553 officials and employees
of railroad companies; 2,898 blacksmiths!
4,491 carpenters; 3,958 tailors, dress
makers and milliners.
There are only twenty-five brewers!
and malsters, the smallest iu any occupa
tion in the state, as recorded by the cen
sus report. >

dist Episcopal Church of the United States,
vs. Methodist Episcopal Church of Carters
viile, Georgia.
In the Superior Court. Petition to foreclose
Mortgage, July Term, 18S4.
It appeanngto the Court by the oetition of the
Church Extension Society oi the Methodist
Episcopal Church of the United States, of the
city of Philadelphia, of the State of Pennsyl
vania, that Janies McHenry, Samuel Nicker
son, Benjamin Latimer and Franklin Hill, as
Trustees of the Cartersvillc Methodist. Episco
pal Church, of Cartersville, Bartow county,
Ga., on the 17th day o> April 1872, executed
and delivered to the said Church Extension So
cioty of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a
mortgage op a certain lot o parcel 6t land,
lying iti the city of Cartersville. in said county
to-wit: Lying on the east sideof Gilmer street
commencing on the east side of said street
two hunded leet north ol Carter si reel running
thence two hundred leet east on a parallel with
Carter strep . thence > orth one hundred feet on
