The Cartersville Amtxi ai
TUESDAY, NwVEMBER 18, 1884.
Town and County .
THE OLIO.
Use none but Smith's Worm Oil.
Pass the butter gently, Mabel,
Shove it lightly through the air;
In the corner of the dish, love,
You will find a nut-brown hair.
What fond mem’lies it awakens
Of the days ere we were vied,
When upon my good coat-collar
oft was laid your little head.
Lovingly I stroked those tresses,
In the happy days gone by ;
Now 1 strike them every meal-time
In the butter or the pie.

the right to occupy until January Ist,

desired to the person renting for next

nied by Messrs. Nathan Sayre, Will Wi
kle, Ed Puckett and James Waldrip.
There having been so little rain during
the past four months, and the temperature

outside these cool days, exploration was
easy and pleasant.

A Yoang Man f tVskle Chararter and lit*
Irotaise, Bits la AdalmHlr, ifter an Ill
ness of Twenty Days.
Six weeks ago there landed in onr
town a bevy of young men whose busi
ness it was to sell a patent churn power.
The party consisted of four, of which TANARUS,
R. Jackson was one. The business was
owned and run by the Camp Brothers,
of Athens, Ga. By their gentlemanly
behavior and straightforward conduct
they made friends rapidly, and to-day
they are known and respected by a wide
circle of people in and around Carters
ville.
About three weeks ago Mr. Jackson
went to Adairsville to push the business,
in the interest of which he was working,
in that community. Shortly after begin
ning operations in and about that town,
he was stricken down with the typhoid
fever. Three members of his father's
family have died of the same disease
within the past eighteen months. From
the day When he was taken sick, (twen
ty days ago,) until lie died on yesterday,
Mr. Jackson received all the care and
kindness that devoted and true friends
could give him. He was conscious until
within five minutes of his death. He
was ready and willing to go; lie died
peacefully and easily; and, we trust, he
is now enjoying that better part which
cannot be taken from him. His body
will be carried to Ashland City, Tenn.,
W'liere he was born and reared, and
where lie is to be laid at rest by tlie side
of his brothers and sisters who have
gone before.
Our acquaintance with Mr. Jackson
was limited, but it was long enough to
discover to us that he possessed all those
high traits and noble attributes that go
to make up a splendid manhood. Geni
al and generous in bis social relations,
punctilious and honorable in business
matters, rigidly straightforward and
careful as to his morals, he made and
held friends by the score.
May he rest in peace. May his lot in
the world beyond the grave be that re
served for the good and faithful, for
whom all time to come is one eternal
happiness.
Long life to Grover Cleveland, and a
big trade to Sclieuer Bros.
REEVES’ STATION.
The Station is situated in a beautiful
valley, which lies in a bend of the Oosta
naula river, and on the E. T. Va. & Ga.,
railroad, twenty-two miles from Dalton
and nineteen miles from Rome. It is one
mile from Miller’s ferry, one-half mile
from the railroad bridge, about one and
one-half miles from Shelly Station on the
north, and four miles from Plainsville on
the south. This point lies about three
miles west of the W. & A. R. R.
There are seven or eight dwellings,
three store houses, one church, Protestant
Methodist, a school house and a depot.
One of the stores is vacant, the other is
occupied by Mr. Miller, who has been here
for some time, the other by Mr. Jesse
Swain, who came here from Adairsville
the first of Oct. He brought with him a
select and varied stock of goods, and finds
this a good place for trade. Mr. Swain
has also been appointed post-master at
this place. He is a Cleveland man. His
family moved here from their home near
Adairsville on the 10th instant, and are
well pleased. He is O. E. now, has one
to cook for him, one to sell dry goods, one
groceries, one to keep up fires, and one to
lick postage stamps, while he drums
around and brings in customers.
Mr. Osborn Reeves, one of the oldest
citizens of this section, and for whom this
place was named, also Mr. John Reeves
and family left last week for Texas.
Rev. Yan A. Bell, of Ringgold, spent a
few days with us last week and preached
several interesting sermons at night. He
has one appointment at Sugar Valley on
the fourth Sunday in this month and at
Salem on the fifth.
Mr. Charlie Cunningham, night opera
tor at Sugar Valley, spent last Friday at
Reeves’.
Mr. John W. Swain has been sick for
several days.
Farmers are very busy sowing wheat.

Something Beautiful.
The prettiest display of Christmas goods
ever seen in Cartersville is that at D. W.
Curry’s. In a large room immediately
above bis drug store be has these goods on
exhibition. It will pay you well to look
at these goods, even if you do not wish to
invest a dimo in them. Christmas pres
ents, bridal presents, New Year’s presents,
birth-day presents, and gifts of friendship
and esteem and affection, of every con
ceivable variety, from the cheap to the
expensive. Vases of all kinds, bisque
figures, hair brushes, clothes brushes,
cheap and elegant dressing cases, China
and silver-plated ware, toilet sets, shaving
sets, a splendid assortment of parlor orna
ments, fruit and card stands—all of this,
and more too, can be seen by calling on D.
W. Curry and asking him to show you
bis Christmas goods. Everything beauti
ful and tasty is there; and, when you step
into the room where these goods are dis
played, you will imagine yourself in a fai
ry land. Go and see these goods and you
will never regret it.
A Card of I hanks.
The ladies of the Methodist Aid Society
desire to return grateful thanks to Messrs.
H. J. Galt, W. M. Hawkins, Y. L. Wil
liams, J. H. Gilreath and to the proprietor
of the St. James hotel, for their numerous
acts of kindness. Especially do they feel
under obligations to Mr. Walter Ryals for
delightful music furnished by the Italian
band, to which they attribute much of the
pleasure of the evening. The festival
netted a sufficient amount to cancel the
debt for the new furniture recently put
in the Methodist church.
