The examination is over, and all is
quiet again. We fully expected you,
Mr. Editor, up to make a speech for us,
and we were sadly disapointed in your
not coming. Our next one will be held
the night of the 17th Sept.
Miss Fannie Barron is assisting in our
school. Miss Fannie is in every way
qualified, and will, doubtless, make a
good teacher.
“Other people’s troubles are nothing
to me”—Willie Kay.
Mr. Peter Smith, of Irondale, Ala.,
with two of his little daughters, paid a
flying visit to Mr. Corbin’s family la c t
week. We know that they were well
entertained, for Mr. Corbin aud his
most estimable wife know just how to
make their visitors enjoy themselves.
“Bud” Mathews says, the reason that
we have had so much rain this year is
that the people ifi Cartersville have
paid their preachers well. ‘’Bud,” we
wish you would urge them 10 make
another payment immediately; for we
are needing rain—guess the preachers
wouldn’t object.
Sam Jones says, “about the most
graceful dancing he ever saw done, was
done at the end of a three foot peach
tree sprout”—Jabez Gilreath says,
“about the best running he ever did,
was done at the big cud of a brush
broom.
Ask Miss Laura McAlwee how much
fried-chicken Mr. Davy Sprigs can eat.
It seems that even the fowls kne*
something of the domestic affairs of man,
when you may seo an old rooster fly
upon the fence, flop his wings, and
crows out: “Mrs. rules here.” and then
one at a neighbors house near by, re
spond, “Aud so she does here. ” Then
the second response comes, from another
house near by, in a course heavy voice,
“It’s the case every whar.”

A Detroit traveler who put in a night at
a village hotel in Indiana called the land
lord aside in the morning and said:
“Sir, I never slept in such a w r retched
bed in all my life.”
“You-didn’t eh? Yes, I know it’s a
poor bed.”
“And supper and breakfast were sim
ply outrageous. Your cook doesn’t kno w
enough to mash potatoes.”
“She doesn’t, eh? Well she isn’t very
bright, and that’s a fact.”
“The coffee was execrable.”
“Yes, I don’t like it myself.”
“And the tea was simply horrible.”
“I guess it was, though I don’t drink
tea.”
“On the whole, my friend,” continued
the traveler, “ you don’t know how to run
a tavern.”
“I don’t, eh? Well I agree with you.”
“Then why on earth don’t you give it
up.”
“I’m going to. I’ve traded the place for
a saw mill, and I go out to-morrow. Your
bill will be two dollars.”
