The biggest contribution came from the Tunnels of Ter ror near Rebecca. This haunted maze on Frankie and April Tedder’s property is an annual event. It raises money for vari ous Turner County charities. The Tedders did not want to announce how much money was given, saying instead it was a “significant amount.” “We have to thank all our volunteers who helped with the Tunnels,” said April. “They came from all over. A full-time County fire department by summer The hiring of Mark Robin son as a County Fire Chief is the first step toward getting a full-time fire department for the County, according to the County Commission. Commission Vice-Chair man Brad Calhoun said the plan right now is to hire, by summer, three full-time fire fighters. Chief Robinson will be one of the three. They will work 24-hour shifts, similar to what the City of Ashburn fire department does. Mr. Calhoun said the County may have to hire someone part-time for the fire department as well. Commission Chairman Sam McCard, replying by email to emailed questions, said, “Yes, Mark will start a full time fire department in the months to come. An exact time is to be determined at a later date. A full time department means that the county will have one on duty fireman as well as vol unteers to respond to county fire calls 24/7. The county has 9 stations spread out within the county, but only the station be side the EMS while being manned.” Mr. Calhoun said the County expects to pay for the full-time department with the money collected on insurance premiums in the County. The Commission has used part of that money to offset deficits in the garbage department. Mr. Calhoun said the garbage de partment is nearly straightened out now. Mr. McCard said the fire de partment budget is something Chief Robinson will address. “Mark will work on a budget for the fire department within his first six months to submit to the commission for the 2016 fiscal year,” he wrote.
