Free hot fudge cakes Thursday at Ashburn Shoney’s
Shoney’s is saying Thank
You, Happy Holidays and
Merry Christmas again this
year with its annual national
FREE Hot Fudge Cake Day,
on Thursday, December 3,
2015.
Once again, the iconic All-
American brand will offer its
signature and most popular
dessert at no cost and with no
purchase required to its loyal
fans and new guests.
“Just like Shoney’s itself,
’National Free Hot Fudge
Cake Day’ has become an
American tradition and we are
proud to treat our coveted reg
ulars and new guests to this de
licious Hot Fudge Cake,” said
Shoney’s Chairman and CEO
David Davoudpour. “Shoney’s
serves more than 2 million Hot
Fudge Cakes each year, but on
December 3, all day, at every
Shoney’s it will be ‘on the
house.’”
Shoney’s famous Hot Fudge
Cake has been a brand staple
since 1947 and has played a
key role in the brand’s recent
resurgence. Since acquiring
Shoney’s in 2007, CEO
Davoudpour has been on a
driven mission to return
Shoney’s to its Glory Days,
when the family-friendly,
southern-style restaurant was
the premiere family casual din
ing concept in the United
States.
“Our mission is to be the
best family dining restaurant in
America. We are a new
Shoney’s, better than ever, but
we cherish our roots and our
Hot Fudge Cake is a big part of
that,” added Davoudpour.
“Every day at Shoney’s folks
can enjoy our fresh quality
food at a great value with
friendly service. And once a
year, we treat America to our
delicious Hot Fudge Cake as
our way of saying Thank You,
Happy Holidays and Merry
Christmas to everyone.”

New screening procedure
for lung cancer at TRMC
Tift Regional Medical Cen
ter (TRMC) announced their
acquisition and first use of the
SPiN Thoracic Navigation
System by Veran Medical
Technologies. This system aids
physicians in the early detec
tion of lung cancer, which is
the key to saving patients’
lives.
Lung cancer is the leading
cause of cancer deaths, killing
more Americans each year
than breast, prostate, colon and
pancreatic cancers combined.
According to the American
Cancer Society, more than
224,000 Americans are diag
nosed with lung cancer each
year. Early detection increases
survival rates from 15 percent
(stage IV) to as high as 92 per
cent (stage I).
The SPiN Thoracic Naviga
tion System is the only system
that allows physicians to accu
rately access small lung lesions
via multiple approaches. This
assists physicians in detecting
lung cancer earlier and without
the need for multiple hospital
visits for diagnostic proce
dures.
"The SPiN Thoracic Navi
gation is a technological break
through that allows me and my
fellow pulmonologists to ac
cess peripheral lesions which
were previously impossible to
reach by conventional bron-
choscopic techniques,” said
Dr. Rubai Patel, Pulmonary
and Critical Care Specialist
with the TRMC Affinity
Clinic. “The Veran system al
lows a pre-planning approach,
similar to using a GPS naviga
tion system for directions, to
accurately navigate to smaller
lesions. Using direct visualiza
tion and real-time confirmation
of nodule location, the accu
racy of accessing a target le
sion is significantly improved.
Being able to diagnose and
treat lung cancer earlier leads
to better patient outcomes. Ul
timately, this helps us save
lives."
Starting this year, Medicare
and all private insurance plans
cover lung cancer screenings
for high-risk individuals. To

appointment, call (229) 391-
4100. Visit

In light of the recent events
involving teen and child safety
while travelling to and from
school, the Southern Georgia
Regional Commission would
like to notify the community of
two programs we offer to help
keep the youth in our region
safe - Teens in the Driver Seat
and Safe Routes to School -
both of which are funded by
the Georgia Department of
Transportation (GDOT).
Teens in the Driver Seat
(TDS) is a peer-to-peer based
program that is very beneficial
in promoting safe driving prac
tices among teens. According
to a survey of teenage drivers,
50% of the responses given
when asked what would deter
teens from reading or respond
ing to text messages while
driving were based on peer-to-
peer interaction. Being peer-
to-peer based, the Teens in the
Driver Seat program discour
ages unsafe driving habits by
providing teenagers with fun
interactive methods allowing
them to discuss the importance
of safe driving habits, all
within the school setting.
There are also many incentives
for schools that implement this
program, but more importantly
Teens in the Driver Seat helps
encourage students to develop
and maintain safe driving
habits.
The second program, Safe
Routes to School (SRTS), is
designed to educate kids on
how to walk and bike to school
safely through walking and
biking educational programs.
Georgia's SRTS Resource Cen
ter assists schools and commu
nities with education,
encouragement, enforcement,
evaluation, planning, and other
non-construction related SRTS
activities. This includes bicycle
safety training, proper street
crossing techniques, bus safety
procedures, and identifying
safe paths to and from school.
The SRTS program empowers
communities to make walking
and bicycling to school a safe
and routine activity once again.
Both of these programs are
free to schools and offer op
tions from curriculum pro
grams, student engagement
incentives, and technical assis
tance. They can also be tai
lored for urban or rural school
settings. If you are a teacher,
student, administrator, or par
ent who would like to learn
how to implement these pro
grams in your school, please
contact JD Dillard or Amy
Martin with the Southern
Georgia Regional Commission
at 229-333-5277 or visit us on
line at www.sgrc.us. You can
also check out www.saferout
esga.org and www.t-dri
ver.com for more information
on these programs. Let’s work
together to keep our youth safe
and informed!
