I take this moment and
thank everyone who partici
pated in the events that the
Chamber hosted recently dur
ing this busy time of year! Last
week we had the opportunity
to host a Meet & Greet with
our new School Superintend
ent, Dr. McDaniel and over the
weekend our Annual Christ
mas Parade took place down
town.
The Meet & Greet was well
received by the community
with close to 200 in atten
dance. South Georgia Banking
Company and Colony Bank
co-sponsored the event which
gave the community a chance
to welcome Dr. McDaniel and
his family to Turner County.
The 2015 “Rockin’ Around
the Christmas Tree” Parade
took place over the weekend
and had over 40 entries, many
spectators, a park full of people
to see Santa & Mrs. Claus and
Mickey & Minnie Mouse, and
enjoy free refreshments. Thank
you to everyone to who partic
ipated- from being in the pa
rade, viewing, planning and
working. It takes a team effort
to make it all work!
Some of our downtown
businesses were able to stay
open late after the parade and
with Christmas quickly ap
proaching I encourage you
when shopping to shop
LOCAL. There are many
unique gifts and bargains to be
found right here at home.
And as always, the doors at
the Chamber are open and we
encourage you to drop by and
share with us ways we can
work together to move our
community forward. We wish
you all a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!
Got your flu vaccination? Don’t wait until it’s too late
The holidays are
meant for gathering
with family and friends,
decorating, and in
dulging in delicious
meals. Don’t let the flu
virus keep you stuck in
bed. The Georgia De
partment of Public
Health (DPH) encour
ages all Georgians 6
months of age and older to get
a yearly flu vaccine. Take this
time and schedule an appoint
ment with your health care
provider or your local public
health department to get your
flu vaccine.
“We want Georgians to un
derstand how simple and con
venient it is to receive a flu
vaccine,” said Mary
Anne Sturdevan, RN,
county nurse manager
for Turner County
Health Department.
“It’s a short time to
commit to staying
healthy through the
holidays.”
Influenza can be a
serious disease that
leads to hospitalization and
sometimes death. Regardless
of race, age, gender or ethnic
ity, anyone can get sick from
the flu. Those especially at risk
are adults 65 years of age and
older, children younger than 5,
pregnant women, people with
certain chronic diseases such
as asthma, diabetes, heart dis

The best protection against
the flu is a flu vaccine. With
“flu season” beginning as early
as August and sometimes last
ing until May, it is never too
late to vaccinate. The vaccina
tion is available in both the
shot and nasal spray form.
Even healthy children and
adults can get very sick from
the flu. So this winter, Georgia
Department of Public Health
encourages all Georgians take
those few minutes to call and
make a date to vaccinate.

On December 10th, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. the MLK

overflow into the ditch.
City workers cleared the pumps. We estimate
