Collier services at Zion Hope
The funeral services for the late Mrs. Leola
Collier of Titusville, Florida, who departed this
life on Saturday, September 16,2017 in that city,
was held Saturday, September 23,2017 at 11:00
а. m. from the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist
Church in Ashburn, Georgia with the Pastor,
Reverend William Leggett, officiating. Burial
followed in the Westview Memorial Cemetery
in Ashburn, Georgia. On Saturday, September
16, 2017, God’s angel appeared and took our
beloved Leola Collier to her final rest.
Mrs. Leola Collier was born on September
б, 1931 to the late Mr. and Mrs. William “Glen-
zie” and Veola Hobbs in Sycamore, Georgia.
Her maternal grandparents were the late Mr. and
Mrs. Dock and Daisy King. Her paternal grand
parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Della
Hobbs.
Leola confessed her faith in Christ early in
childhood when she joined Zion Hope Baptist
Church of Sycamore, Georgia. She married Mr.
J. W. Collier, Sr. on October 5, 1947 and the
union was blessed with seven children. Leola,
affectionately called “Tutt” and “Cuda”, exhib
ited her profound Christian life with all who she
met and those who she had a relationship. She
enjoyed caring for her children and any other
persons that were in her presence. She was a
testimony of the life that Christ expects from
whoever believes. She would always adopt her
children’s friends, and share her loving care to
all that crossed her path. Leola loved all of
God’s creations and displayed her love by feed
ing stray cats, dogs, and even birds that found
their way to her yard. She had a fondness for
taking care of the yards until she was unable to
do so; even then she maintained her ability to
nurture her garden including her various pepper
plants. Her favorite pastime was working puz
zles and going to yard sales. Once she teamed
up with Mamie Cushion and Alice Floyd, they
were known as the “Golden Girls” and off they
would go!
Leola was predeceased by her parents, two
sisters- Irene Dantley and Gloria Jean Hobbs;
two brothers- William Hobbs and George
Hobbs; and one grandson- Rodrigus Bartell.
Leola is survived by one sister, Emma Rober
son; seven children- Betty Robison of Ashburn,
GA, J. W. Collier, Jr., Ernestine Hendrix, Linda
Collier, Jacqueline Collier, all of Titusville, FL,
David Collier of Orlando, FL, and Vivian Col
lier-Lewis of Titusville, FL; three sons-in-law,
David Robison of Ashburn, GA, Ronald Hen
drix and Clifton Lewis, both of Titusville, FL;
seventeen grandchildren, Tommie Faye Bate-
man-Graves, Shandra Oldham, Lisa Battle, An
gela Fullmore, Derek Collier, Christopher
Chatfield, Jarrod Collier, Myoshe Johnson,
Akila Collier, Kimberly Collier-Unukpo, Ashley
Chatfield, Corey Hendrix, Brandon Collier,
David “Charles” Collier, Tiffany Pearson,
Courtney Collier, Brittany Pearson; eighteen
great grandchildren and one great-great grand
child. She had a host of nieces, nephews, and
cousins. She also treasured a host of special
friends and neighbors who looked in on her and
assisted her in her times of need.

Not a false alarm this time!
Occasionally my wife and I
get away to spend some time
together. Sometimes it might
be attached to a working trip,
but I suppose that is better than
nothing. I recall one of those
getaways as we left town to at
tend a church function in
Columbus. The weather was
less than ideal for traveling,
but we took our time and ar
rived safely. I had reserved a
motel room online at a facility
I had never been to before.
Sometimes the pictures that are
posted and how things really
are do not match up, but this
time it seemed that the motel
would deliver on everything
that was shown and said about
it. After church we got back to
the room and found everything
comfortable, clean and peace
ful. I remarked to Gale about
how nice and quiet it was. Not
long after I expressed my
pleasure with the tranquility of
our surroundings, things took a
sudden turn as a piercing
sound bellowed out in our
room and in the hallway. Very
quickly, curious people ap
peared by their doors looking
around to see why the smoke
alarms were going off.
Having been in hospitals
when the alarm systems were
being tested, I assumed that
was the case this time. How
ever, after I had time to rethink
the whole matter I never re-
Inspiration
member a motel doing a fire
drill unannounced at bedtime.
We responded by getting
dressed enough to be decent in
case we needed to evacuate,
but I still could not imagine
that it was anything other than
a test of the system so we took
no further action. In a few
minutes, though, a smell was
evident in the air—it was not a
false alarm this time!
I consider myself to be a
reasonably cautious person—I
wore my seatbelt long before
the law required it and I make
a lot of impatient drivers dis
gusted because I strive to obey
the speed limit. But when that
alarm sounded, I stayed in the
building, possibly loosing
valuable time that could have
made the difference between
safety and jeopardy. I admit
that that was not a wise deci
sion.
One of the biggest dangers
in the church world today
among those who claim to be
followers of Christ is the lack
of knowledge and application
of the Word of God—the
Bible. That Precious Book is
filled with guidance and warn
ings for our lives but too often
it is neglected and not put into
practice in our daily lives,
much like I failed to act when
the alarm sounded in that
motel. Life is real, eternity is
real, and we need real direction
from God in order to know
how to face both. He has pro
vided that guidance for us
through His Word. Centuries
ago King David made this ob
servation: “As for God, His
way is perfect; the word of the
Lord is flawless. He is a shield
for all who take refuge in Him”
(2 Samuel 22:31, New Interna
tional Version).
When the smoke alarm
went off I wasted what could
have been precious time won
dering if its message was real.
It was real, but thankfully, it
was only the result of a minor
mishap in one of the kitch
enettes. God’s entire Word—
its warnings, promises and
guidance—means what it says.
It is in our best interest to fol
low It and not waste time won
dering if God really meant
what He said. He did!

Hurricane refugees looking for cat
I'm reaching out in hopes
that someone could help get
the word out about our beloved
calico cat Snickers.
We evacuated Florida and
spent several days up north in
Kentucky. While on our way
back on September 16 at a
local store in Arabi called Plan
tation House is where she got
loose and was last seen.
Snickers is a rescue and
very skittish and afraid of
strangers to begin with. We
desperately need the public's
help locating her. The workers
at Plantation House have been
extremely helpful especially,
KimV.
We could never thank her
enough or repay her acts of
kindness. Your small town has
renewed my faith in humanity
and that good people do still
exists. There is a reward of
fered to those who help us
bring our baby home. Please
contact William Simms at 954-
937-9553 or Teresa O'Donnell
954-479-1489.

For some reason, aliens are

or listening to the dictator sing

more painful.
Acknowledgements
We, the Collier Family, extend our sincere
thanks to our many friends for the love
shown during this time of bereavement.
We are appreciative for all of the comfort

all, your presence at the service. We ask
for your continued prayers, and may God
bless you.
