Rebels defeat the Bulldogs 40-13
by Brad Christian
The Turner County Rebels
were itching to get the bad
taste of the previous week’s
loss to Charlton out of their
mouth. Despite showing up a
little lethargic at times on both
sides of the ball, the Rebels
were able to get things back on
track with a 40-13 victory over
visiting Lanier County last Fri
day night at Alan Hobby Field.
“We were able to clean
some things up on both sides
of the ball, but especially on
offense, and statistically, it was
our best night on offense this
year,” said head coach LeRoy
Hood. “We came out a little
slow but we were able to open
things on offense which hope
fully has us trending back in
the right direction as a team.”
The Bulldogs got on the
board first as they went down
the field exclusively on the
ground in their first drive for a
touchdown to take an early 7-
0 lead. But the Rebels quickly
responded as quarterback Tyler
Moore found receiver Jaman
Morris from 7 yards out to tie
the game up at 7. The score
held until Moore found Jason
Harris from 16 yards out with
8:40 left in the second quarter
to make it 14-7. A third passing
touchdown for Moore for the
half, this time to Morris again,
allowed the Rebels to stretch
the lead out to 21-7 at the half.
‘Tyler had an outstanding
game throwing the ball. Our
receivers played really well
also,” said Hood.
The second half was more
of the same as Taydrain
Sanders got in on the action as
he caught a touchdown pass
from Moore to make it 27-7.
Lanier would kick a thirty yard
field goal to cut the lead to 27-
10 but the Rebels quickly
marched down the field as De-
marcus Barnes finished off the
drive with a two yard run to
make it 33-10. The last Rebel
score of the game would hap
pen as Moore found Quantrav-
ious Lawson from 12 yards out
to make it 40-10. Lanier
County would add a field goal
in the fourth quarter to close
out the scoring.
Moore finished the game
16 for 25 for 281 yards and
five touchdowns. Morris fin

161 yards receiving and two
touchdowns. “We have the tal
ent to have that type of game.
We just have to execute and
make the plays,” said Hood.
The win improves the
record of the Rebels to 4-2
overall and 2-1 in region play.
The entire region is off this
week and gives everyone a
chance to catch their breath for
the final four games of the sea
son. Hood says he doesn’t
mind a break at this time of the
year.
“We are fortunate in that
we are relatively healthy at this
time of year. But it will give us
a chance to polish up some
things on our squad and get
ready for the stretch run, said
Hood. That begins with a trip
to Homerville to take on
Clinch County on October 13.
Hood says he and the staff
have started to break down the
Clinch film but he added they
would take a closer look this
week in what sets up to be a
huge game with the Panthers.
