Peanut bank week coming
BOESALUTE
The Georgia Peanut Com
mission and Georgia Bankers
Association will join forces
Oct. 16-20 to promote the 41st
annual Georgia Peanut Bank
Week.
South Georgia Bank and
Colony Bank usually partici
pate in this.
Financial institutions and
local banks across the state will
offer a tribute to Georgia's
3,400 peanut farm families and
the sustainability they provide
to Georgia's state and local
economies.
The 2017 theme, "Peanuts:
Sustaining Georgia's Rural
Economy," will showcase the
sustainability peanuts provide
on and off the farm, as well as
highlight the fact Georgia
peanuts contribute more than
$1.3 billion annually to the
state's economy; a contribution
that helps maintain Georgia's
largest industry: agriculture.
"We're excited to continue
Georgia Peanut Bank Week for
the forty-first year and salute
peanut farmers," Armond Mor
ris, chairman of the Georgia
Peanut Commission said.
"This promotion is a great way
to highlight all peanuts have to
offer our communities across
the state."
The annual promotion takes
place during an opportune time
of the year: peanut harvest. In
2016, Georgia peanuts were
planted on more than 720,000
acres throughout Georgia and
accounted for nearly 50 per
cent of peanut production in
the United States. Peanuts
were planted in more than 75
of Georgia's 159 counties with
an average yield of more than
3,900 pounds per acre.
The Georgia Peanut Com
mission invites everyone to
visit a participating bank to
show support for Georgia's
peanut farmers, as well as the
banking industry. Peanuts,
recipe cards and other promo
tional material will be avail
able during the week of Oct.
16-20 at participating financial
institutions. For more informa
tion, visit the GPC website at

Is it heartburn or a
gallbladder problem?
Do You Have
Persistent
Upper Abdominal
Discomfort?
The leading symptoms of both heartburn and gallbladder disease
are upper abdominal pain, which understandably causes concern
for many people. Adding to the confusion is the fact that what
typically causes heartburn can also trigger a gallbladder attack—
a diet of fatty or spicy foods, lying down after eating, being
overweight and genetics.
If you have persistent upper abdominal discomfort, make an
appointment with one of the board-certified general surgeons
at South Georgia Surgical in Tifton. There are several tests that
can help pinpoint the source of your discomfort. If a gallbladder
issue is detected, the experts at South Georgia Surgical can
develop a comprehensive treatment plan using either surgical
or non-surgical interventions.

FSA county committees
will complete an evaluation of
submitted requests and obli
gate available funds based on
an on-site inspection of the
damaged land, taking into con
sideration the type and extent
of the eligible damage. Com
pletion of the on-site inspec
tion does not guarantee that
cost-share funding will be allo
cated.
The use of obligated funds
is limited to return the land to
the relative pre-disaster condi
tion. Conservation concerns
that were present on the land
prior to the disaster are not eli
gible for ECP assistance. Ap
proved ECP applicants may
receive up to 75 percent of the
cost of completing the ap
proved restoration activity.
Because of the severe and
widespread damage caused by
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma,
USDA has announced special
procedures and additional flex
ibilities that may apply to the
FSA disaster assistance pro
gram provisions outlined in
this document. A complete
listing of all special farm pro
gram provisions is posted at
