THURSDAY NIGHT READING
Family Connection of Turner County, Inc. launched
its new Literacy Program: Show up and Read on Octo
ber 5th at 6:00. Kathleen Fountain, dressed as a cute
lady bug, read the story The Grouchy Lady Bug. The
parents and children loved it. This past Thursday on Oc
tober 12th Eilene Perry read a wonderful story called
The Halloweiner. Parents and children joined in the
laughter from this delightful book. Stay tuned for this
Thursday at 6:00. Parents grab your kids and come on
out. We are so thankful for everyone in the community
who donated books and your time to make this program
come alive.

Chamber plans turkey shoot fundraiser
The Turkey Shoot is back.
The Turner County Chamber
of Commerce is sponsoring a
turkey shoot on Saturday, Oct.
21 from 1-3 p.m. at the
Sycamore shooting range.
The shoot is timed to give
hunters a chance to come shoot
and still get to their stands for
the opening day of gun season
for deer.
Turkeys, donated by the
Piggly Wiggly in Ashburn, are
the prizes for shooters. The
event is a fundraiser for the
Chamber of Commerce and the
4-H Air Pistol team which re
cently won a national champi
onship.
The Chamber will supply
12 and 20 gauge ammunition.
Shooters may not use their
own ammo. A house gun in
each gauge will be provided.
Shots are $2 each or 6 for $10.
Shooters can shoot for closest
to center of the target or most
pellets in the target. Shooters
may enter both competitions.
Shooter groups are 12 and
under, 13-18 and over 18. 12
turkeys will be awarded. You
do not have to be present to
win, but you do have to shoot
to have a chance to win. The
chamber will call winners who
may pick up their turkey cer
tificate at the Chamber or it can
be mailed.
"Outlaw" guns may not be
used. Max barrel length is 36
inches with no restrictions on
choke types. Guns must be
empty and cleared before ap
proaching the range. A range
officer will hand over ammuni
tion when the shooter steps up
to shoot.
Range officers are members
of the Sycamore and Ashburn
police departments.
The 4-H team will sell re
freshments.
DIRECTIONS - The
Sycamore Shooting Range is
off Highway 41 on the south
side of Sycamore. Turn west,
across the railroad tracks, at
Sycamore Baptist Church
which is at the intersection of
Highway 41 and Georgia
Highway 32. Continue straight
ahead and go through the gate
to enter the Sycamore spray
field. The range is on the far
side of the field.
Signs will be posted.
For a complete list of the
rules or more information,
please call the Chamber at
