emergency meeting whatever the emergency
might be.
There were more yes votes than no votes to
bring the trash dumpster back. It was disre
garded. Some council members didn’t want to
pay for this service. The residents were not put
first.
For eight months I have been a witness of
hostility between our City Council that has en
abled our mayor to accomplish projects.
It is time for a change. Please come to our
monthly meetings and express your opinions for
the good of Rebecca.
I employ each voter to consider your choice
for a new council that will meet the needs of our
residents.

family and you to join us for
our Annual Women's Day Cel
ebration on the 4th Sunday,
Oct. 22, 2017 at 11 :30 a.m.
This year in honor of Breast
Cancer Awareness Month we
are supporting the fighters, ad
miring the survivors, honoring
the taken, and encouraging
everyone who has been ef
fected by Breast Cancer to
never ever give up hope. One
in eight women will be diag
nosed with breast cancer in
their life time and men make
up 1 % of all Breast Cancer
cases. Every thirteen minutes a
woman dies from Breast Can
cer.
Our theme for this very
worthy cause is "Women De-
signedto sit at the feet of Jesus"
and our colors are pink and
black or any other combination
of colors you may desire. If
you don't have pink, please
don't let that stop you from
coming to worship God with
us in spirit and truth. Fadies,
please remember, if we are de
signed to sit at the feet of Jesus
then we must learn to listen to
and take care of our bodies.
Breast Cancer is the most com
mon cancer among Black
women.
Our guest speaker for this
great occasion is the anointed
Prophetess Favern Richardson
of Dawson, GA. Thank you in
advance for your attendance
and may God continue to bless
and keep your church family
and you.
In those dark hours
“When neither sun nor stars
appeared for many days and
the storm continued raging, we
finally gave up ah hope of
being saved” (Acts 27:20, New
International Version). If you
are familiar with the story you
know that the verse quoted
above was a description of the
dire circumstances of Paul and
a host of other individuals on a
ship battling a destructive hur
ricane as they sailed toward
Rome. Yet in the midst of the
storm during those dark hours,
God sent hope that they would
be delivered. He used the
Apostle Paul to encourage
them with these words: “So
keep up your courage, men, for
I have faith in God that it will
happen just as He told me”
(Acts 27:25).
Even though the direct ref
erence in Acts 27 was to a lit
eral event that took place a
long time ago, it might also
serve as a reminder of some of
the encounters we have in life
that seem to bring darkness
that produces hopelessness.
We can gain hope from this ac
count that God is there to see
us through the impossible
places.
I recall going to a facility
and visiting an individual that
was greatly afflicted by a con
dition that had eliminated her
mobility and greatly hindered
her ability to clearly communi
cate. Most of the time her
Inspiration
speech was little more than
babbling that was virtually im
possible to decipher. On one
occasion, however, I was
pleasantly surprised at her abil
ity to communicate verbally
with me. While her capability
to speak was still much less
than perfect, it was still clear
enough to understand.
To be completely confined
to a bed while continuously
connected to a feeding tube
must surely be much like what
those on that ship in Acts 27
experienced—no sun, no stars,
no hope. That causes me to
wonder what words I would
choose if I had only an occa
sional period of alertness. I
doubt if my words would be as
gracious as those spoken to me
by that young lady on that day.
From a previous visit I was
familiar with her condition and
inability to communicate, so I
had little expectation of any
thing understandable to flow
from her lips when I stood by
her bedside and spoke to her.
To my great surprise she gave
a big smile and with simple
words stated: “God’s been
good to me. I have no reason
to complain!” No reason to
complain? From the human
side she had every reason to
complain—unable to eat, un
able to walk, unable to engage
in the normal activities that a
person of her age should be
able to involve herself in.
Surely she spoke from a hope
that ran much deeper than cir
cumstances, appearances, and
expectations. I am convinced
that she spoke from a heart that
was filled with the love and
presence of God. Humanly
speaking she was experiencing
a dark hour in life, but spiritu
ally she remained alive and vi
brant.
What can we do in those
dark hours when it seems that
neither sun nor stars appear for
many days? Those words of
Paul in Acts 27:25 point us to
a good starting place: keep up
the courage, maintain the faith,
and continue to believe God’s
Word. When we sincerely
apply those three spiritual
tools, regardless of our circum
stances, we can say of a truth
what that precious lady said to
me that day: “God’s been
good to me. I have no reason
to complain!”
Your Vote is Appreciated!
