Panthers prove to be too much for Rebels in Homerville
by Brad Christian
The Turner County Rebels
went down to Homerville last
Friday night to take on Clinch
County in a key region battle.
Both teams entered the
matchup with an overall record
of 4-2 and both still had hopes
for a region championship. Un
fortunately, the home standing
Panthers just had a little too
much firepower and over
matched the Rebels en route to
a 42-7 victory.
The Panthers, who boast a
handful of players who are
being recruited to play Divi
sion 1 football, scored on their
opening possession quickly to
take a 7-0 lead. Junior Trezman
Marshall, who is being re
cruited by Georgia and Clem-
son, scored the first of his four
touchdowns on the night. The
Rebels would take their open
ing drive all the way to the
Panther one yard line before
being stopped on fourth and
goal. From there, it was all
Panthers as they led 28-7 at the
half. The Rebels avoided a
shutout in the first half thanks
to a Tyler Moore touchdown
pass to Bookie Lawson with no
time remaining in the half.
The Panthers would con
tinue to pile it on in the second
half as they would add two
touchdowns to close out the
scoring. It was a disappointing
loss for the Rebels but the Pan
thers were just too much on
this night.
With the loss, the Rebels
drop to 4-3 overall on the sea
son. As of press time, it looks
like they will be 18th in the
GHSA Class A power rank
ings, which still has them com
fortably in the playoffs. If you
finish in the top 16, you are
guaranteed at least one home
playoff game. Clinch County,
Irwin County, and Charlton
