Ashburn Council seeks another salary hike
The Ashburn City Council
is considering giving itself a
raise.
The Council raised its pay
in May 2015 from $350 a
month to $550 a month. The
new request wants to increase
that to $850.
The mayor’s salary would
go to $1,150 a month.
As Councilman James
Burks, the council member be
hind two approved pay hikes
and one rejected hike, says
only the City Council can raise
the pay for the Council mem
bers.
If approved, the pay in
crease will take effect after the
next election for whomever
takes office. Currently seated
Council members cannot get
the raise.
The Council can put the
raise on first reading at the
Thursday night meeting. It
cannot waive the second meet
ing, so if the motion passes
Thursday, it is back on the
agenda at the December meet
ing.
