Rebels head to round one against Schley County on Friday
by Brad Christian
The Turner County Rebels
closed out the regular season
last Friday night with a trip to
Ocilla to take on region cham
pion Irwin County. The Rebels
had already clinched a playoff
spot, but with a win, they
would have a chance at a home
game. Unfortunately, the Indi
ans proved to be too much as
they took the victory 32-6.
“We came up short tonight
but we are still going to the
playoffs and that was a goal we
set at the beginning of the sea
son,” said head coach Leroy
Hood as he spoke to his team
after the game. “We are battled
tested as we have played Irwin,
Clinch, and Charlton. Our re
gion is the toughest in the state
in Class A and we got through
it and made the playoffs.”
It was a tough night for the
Rebels in Ocilla. They didn’t
get a first down until the sec
ond quarter. The first quarter
was marred by penalties, a
muffed kick, and a blocked
punt and that led to a quick 20-
0 lead for the Indians.
The Rebels would get on
the board late in the second
quarter as quarterback Tyler
Moore ran it in from 12 yards
out to get the Rebels on the
scoreboard. But that would be
their only points of the night.
The Rebels did recover two
Indians fumbles in the second
half but never could capitalize
offensively.
For the game, Moore had
77 yards rushing and 43 yards
passing. For the season,
he now has 1,130 pass
ing yards with 16 touch
downs. That gives him
4,831 passing yards for
his career, which leaves
him 379 yards short of
the school record set by
Eric Jackson back in
1996.
The Rebels finish
with a regular season
record of 6-4 and have
finished 20th in the
GHS A Power Rankings.
The rankings were not
finalized by the GHSA
as of press time, the
Rebels were set to visit
Schley County in the
first round of the play
offs. Schley County
High School is located
in Ellaville, which is
about 15 miles west of Ameri-
cus. The Wildcats finished
their season with an overall
record of 7-3.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 and
will be broadcast on 105.7 FM.
The offensive line comes to the line to run the next play.
