Best Business- Dancers’ Pointe Best Church - Christian Union Church of God Best School- TCMS ACE Academy Supt. makes case for admin posts The school system has some administration posts that need to be filled, said Superintend ent Jeff McDaniel. “Together, we’re going to see improvements in this county with everybody work ing together,” he said. “We are (going to) create opportunities at the Central Office to roll out a reorganization plan that will be beneficial to our kids. We will be transparent n all lev els.” He said the central office is running on a skeleton crew. With the retirement of Dr. Joy Gentry, the assistant super intendent post is opened. Dr. McDaniel said the board office has worked on succession plans for this position for sev eral months now. He said the plan is 80 percent done. The movement would involve not hiring an Asst. Supt. but hiring two critical need areas instead: The superintendent also pointed to “2 critical needs, po sitions that need to be opened up and applications we need to receive.” The first is “executive direc tor of curriculum and school improvement. That is the heartbeat and pulse. It is a much-needed position,” Dr. McDaniel said. “It is a sorely needed position in this county. It will help principals, help teachers and help our students achieve at a higher level.” No. 2 is an executive direc tor of information and instruc tional technology. The person in this post will “be there for instruction and pieces of technology going in and (help) model and demon strate,” the superintendent said. “Obviously, we have in dividuals who are doing this on a daily basis but we lack the in structional and professional learning piece” Someone in the exec, director's chair will pull it all together informational and instructional with an em phasis on assisting teachers “how to integrate and inter twine (technology) to become a better teacher.” A third position already has someone selected. Alan Smith will work 12-15 hours a week as a contracted services indi vidual for federal programs. His duties are to make sure pa perwork is done correctly and timely. He will also attend meetings about these pro grams. He was hired Monday night. “He is filling a great void for us,” Dr. McDaniel said. No. 4 on the list is a Career, Technical and Agricultural Ed ucation (CTAE) director’s po sition. Dennis Kendrick has filled that post as interim over the last month. “He is doing an outstanding job. He is budget conscious and programmatic conscious,” the superintendent said. “July 1, we need someone permanent in that position.” Food distribution Tuesday Food will be distributed to low income families at New Prov idence Baptist Church, 531 West Washington Ave., Ashburn, Tuesday, Dec. 19, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending once com modities are depleted. The food is limited and free and will be given out in a first come, first serve basis. However, to receive the commodities, individuals must meet the USDAhousehold in come guidelines and are 18 and older (picture ID is required). An application process will be completed to determine eligibility. Only one box per household (PLEASE); other members need not apply. Second Harvest of South Georgia’s USDA food is avail able to eligible individuals regardless of race, color, sex, handi cap, religion, or national origin.
