/ \ Brinson Briefs. S. M. Brown of Eldorendo was here Monday of this week. We regret to report the illness of Mrs. Dock Earp at her home here. Miss Bertha 1’erry and her sister Mrs. Porter left Monday on a visit to Climax. Mr. and Mrs. D. K. Talbert went down to Bainbridge Monday on a shopping trip. E. T. Murphy will soon move into his neat, new residence completed by Mr. Warren. Rev. and Mrs. Jeff Funderburk nave a bran new heir at their home and are receiving the congratulations of their friends. A number of our citizens went 07or to the fiddlers’ convention at Bainbridge last week and were very much entertained by the program. People in this community are well up with cotton picking for the season of the year, the reason for this is probably the high prices they are receiving. Hill Robinson passed through Brinson last Sunday on a visit to his ola home, Iron City. Hill iH now ac tively engaged m the mercantile business at Cairo. Dr. Bridges was called to the home of Mr. M. Aldav who lives near Lake Hinton, and who lias been quite low with typhoid lever. How ever he is now improving. The Stuart Lumber Company, are work 1 ng night and day in order to complete repairs on their large mill and resume operations. The mill had to be repaired throughout its foundations. The new Warren saw mill is now in course of construction, the foun- lations having beeu laid last week. It will take some time to complete the mill, but as there is a considera ble amount of timber at the old site, Mr. Warren is in no especial hurry. A large number of our people, in fact about all that could seonre con veyances attended the Association at Pino Grove church last Sunday. Many also attended the meeting Fri day and Saturday. Pine Grove is one of the delightful neighbor hoods, and onr people are always glad of the opportunity to mingle with them in their meetings. The association was an entire success. The Man and the Woman. A man will run as fast as he can to cross a railroad track in front of a train, says the Kansas City Journal. Then he will watch it till it goes out of sight. Then he will walk leisurely away. He seems to be all right and probably is. That is a man. A woman in a street car will open a sachel and take out a purse, take out a dime and close the purse, open the sachel put in the purse, cl^se the sachel lock both ends. Then she will give the dime to the conductor, who will give her a nickel back. Then she will open the sachel and take out the purse, put Hi the nickel, close the purse, open the sachel and put in the purse, close the sachel ami lock both ends. Then she will feel for the buckle at the back of her belt. Pelham, our progressive s.ster city is soon to establish an oil mill. A number of her wealthy and enterprising citizens with Hon. J. L. Hand as promoter have tiled a petition in the' Mitch ell superior court for the incorp; r ation of the l’elham Oil and Fer tilizer Company, with a capital stock of $100,000 and the right to increase it lo 5500,000. The charter provides for the manufact- re of cotton seed oil and fertiliz ers. for the operation of water works, ice factory, cold storage, etc., and also for ginning cotton. Georgia State Fair. The features of the state fair have been so far matured, l hat a mention of them is a practical presentation of the official program which the program com mittee is getting into form for public an nouncement The first day of the fair, October 31, is "Press Day.” On that date Macon and the Macon fair association, under the auspices of the Georgia State Agri cultural Society, will formally open the the exhibition, by an entertainment of the newspaper men -of ~the etate.' Through their generous co-operation, Macon has been largely aided, and she proposes to seek an opportunity to tes tify her apDreciation. The formal open ing will be observed with appropriate ceremonies. Following this will be an old-fashioned Georgia barbecue, tender ed the pencil pushers of the state, and other entertainment. Ootober 32 is -‘North Carolina Day.” This event will be one of the red-letter features of the fair. From far and near messages of cheer have come to the local committee, having in charge the ar rangements fer the reunion of the sons and daughters of the "Old North State” residents in Georgia. Many distinguish ed representatives of Nortn Carolina will come to Macon to participate in the pleasures of the reunion. October 2d is "Military Day.” Not less than twenty companies of Georgia State troops will compete for the liberal prizes ottered. In addition, the crack cadet corps of the several military insti tutes will participate. The fairgrounds for one day will add the picturesqueness of the tented field, to its many other at tractions. .Saturday, October 24 is "Drummers Day.” No force in all the state have done more loyal work for the State Fair than the “Knights of the Grip.” Eyery- wheie—at the hotels, en route on the railroad trains, in the stores of custom ers—they have talked the State Fair— handled it its a side line. The keys of the city will be handed to th°m on "Drummers Day.” and they will own the Fair and the fullness thereof. Sunday, October 25. Conterno's fa mous band will entertain with a sacred concert. While all exhibition halls and all other features of the Fair will be closed, the music which Cnnterno will render will of itself lie worth a journey across the state to hear. Monday, October 20, the Georgia Farm ers Congress, with over one thousand delegates will be opened The sessions of the congress, which will be on 3 of the most interesting features 'of the Fair, will continue five days. It will be ad- diessed each day by a noted authority on topics of peculiar interest to the farmers. The races will also commence October 20. The rarest racing sport ever pre sented at a State Fair will be witnessed by all who attend. Entries are being made from all seotiOflB of the country. Not less than 200 horses will be stabled at the park during the race week of the Fair. v Twelve counties have already applied for space for county exhibits, which guarantee the greatest display of agri cultural products ever assembled in the history of the state. The slock and poultry exhibits and the dsplay of farm machinery and im plements will be immense in their pro proportions. The amusements of the fair will equal the other features. The grand “Arcade” will be a magnificent revelation, out classing anything ever attempted at any previous State Fair in variety and per fection. The park is to be wired for hundreds of electric lights, so that at night it will present an entrancing scene—while above the sky will be lit by the glow of fireworks, and Conterno's band will rav ish the ear with its incomparable melo dies. The railroads have authorized a rate or one fare for the round trip. One cent and a half a mile each way, The State Fair will he held at a season when all people can spare the time to come to Macon aud eujoy a holiday. It will be an opportunity to renew old acquaint ances and make new ones. It will offer a chance to learn something more of fhe state than was known before. The State Faiv will be a course in liberal ed ucation. GEORGIA—Decatur County: John Muvkersou, f Libel for Divorce. vs > Decatur Sup. Court. Kettle Murker- u ) Filed Sept 12, 1903. The defendant.
