ANENT OUR CITY ELECTION. The election in this city last Wednesday was a quiet one, only a few of the candidates even ap pearing on the grounds except for the purpose of casting their indi vidual ballots. Those who ran were candidates by request of the citizens, and therefore those not elected cannot feel that they have been defeated for the reason that they have made no decided fight for the position. The seeming listlessness on the part of the candidates was not because of a lack of appreciation of the office, but more from a de sire that the citizens of the town might entirely unhampered, cast their ballots in this election. Good men were elected and equally as good were defeated. All are friends and we believe that there will follow an era of prosperity not surpassed even by the marvelous growth the town has attained dut- ing the past five years. The new board of aldermen will enter upon their duties feeling that they have the backing of the whole town, and not that of any one or more factions, to whom they may or may not feel obligated. Mr. Willis who was selected to head the ticket has been mayor of Bainbridgc before, and during his administration the town prospered greatly. The fact that he had no opposition in the present race should bear sufficient testimony of his favor among his fellow-citizens Backed as he will be by a strong board of aldermen imbued with'the importance of keeping tbeir city at the forefront of Georgia munici palities, continued material ad vancement along every wholesome line may be expected. The Search Light congratulates the town on it present prosperous condition, and on the fact that the campaign just concluded was not allowed to rend the town in fac tions. We believe that the same conservatism that has attained throughout the campaign will characterize the official acts of the men who have been selected to direct the destinies of Bainbridge for the two promising years to come bulton county’s grand jury is calling time on the justices of the peace. Rumors have reached their ears that the magistrates are abus ing their offices by turning them over to the many- conscienceless money lending sharks, who seem to abound in Atlanta,' for the pur pose of oppressing the poor and defenseless and extorting usurous rates of interest out of them. Every justice will be investigated and the guilty ones punished. We believe that people wish to trade where they can do best, and that to get kheir trade it is neces- sary to do best by them. This is the principle that we have tried to apply, and it has proven effective. We are sure that our business will keep on growing. It will grow because all those features that have brought trade are still in op eration. We want your trade, and we ask for it solely on the basis of our intention and ability to do you good.
