All stores according to agreement olosed yesterday and they remained dosed throughout the day. Most of the merchants went hunting. Mr. L. H. Hill of the Thomasville office will arrive in this city tomor row and will be associated with Mr J. W. Ware the present genial man ager of the Western Union Tele graph Co. Amie May the little three year old daughter of Mr. F. H. Hesters is at Dr. Walkers, Sanitarium in Cairo where she was operated upon on CBday for appendicitis, al though the case bad reached the rup purative stage; at this writing she is doing nicely. Mr. C. H. Caldwell was exhibiting the first of last week a photograph of some very fine potatoes grown on one of his many farms in the ooun- ty. The specimens were the largest we have seen in a long time, and ev idences somewhat the possibilities of this Decatur count ysoil of ours We hope that our farmers will keep in mind the Agricultural mass meeting to be held in the court honse this city on December 12 Hon. Harvie Jordon, president of the National Farmers Congress will be present and will deliver an ad drees as will several other forceful speakers. Keep the date in mind, Mr. Edgar Morgan has accepted the local agency for the New York Mutual Life Insurance Company and will hereafter work the territo ry surrounding Bainbndge. Mr. Morgan has an ad in this paper to which we call attention. He will make Bainbridge headquarters, and we bespeak for him a liberal share of the bnsiness of the section. It will be remembered that Miss Patterson who is atten ding Shorter College at Rome, has recently been quite ill and Mrs Griffin, her sister, has been at ner bedside. Hight, proprietor of the Leon Hotel in Tallahassee, spent several days here this week. Mr. Hight was for some months night olerk at the Wainman and has a number of friends in this oily. If the sanitary department took the trouble to inspect they would probably see the necessity for ac tion on some of the city's alley- ways, where puddles collect at ev ery rain and remain until dried by the sheer heat of the sun. We refer especially to the alley behind the Willis Drug Co’s., store. Mr. John B. Crawford, one Cairo’s leading oitizens and business men, was in rttendanoe upon court last week. He informs a represent ative of the Search Light that his prosperous town had already receiv ed about 7000 barrels of syrup and nearly 2000 bales of ootton up to date, and expeots to" get before the season closes something like 15,000 barrels of syrup We understand that Bainbridge is to be re-rated bv the South Eastern Tariff Association at an early date and we would suggest that our oiti zens make every effort to have the town rated iu accordance with our improved fire lighting advantages.
