Mr. Abner Averitt x of Fowltown ha« charge of the agenoy for the Mutual Lite Insurance Association of Georgia. He was in the oity Tues day and informs us that he is meet ing with great suooess. Tbe home office of tbe company is located at Athens and for many years it has been in satisfactory operation there. It is a mutual risk and is designed to seoure insurance at a lower figure than it could possibly otherwise be obtained. Mr. Averitt hopes to have the organization under pei feet working order in a short time. Mr. George Stiles and family are quartered at the Waiumau hotel for the winter. Mr. Stiles has in oharge a string of 17 race horses which he Is training on the splendid track at the fair grounds, some of tbfim are fast too. There is no reason why Bainbridge shouldn’t beoome the training quarters of numbers of hor ses each winter. Our climate is splendid and we have one of the fastest tracks iu the South. Mr. Stiles and his interesting family are welcomed to Bainbridge. We understand that early in the new year Mr. Chas. A. Helton will formerly announce his oandidaoy for sheriff of Deoatur county subject to tbe primaries. He proposes making the contest a vigorous one. Mr. Hel ton was for a long while deputy un der sheriff Patterson. He is active and fearless and would make a good officer no doubt. ■ Announcement. To the Voters of Decatur County: I hereby announce my candidacy for the honorable position of Judge of the City Court, subject to tho result of the white primary. 1 make this announcement with many misgivings as to my competency to ac ceptably fill this important and trying position. To properly adjudicate the rights of the intelligent citizens of this great and prosperous county might well tax tbe brain and heart of any man. I can only promise that if honored by your choice I will bring to the discharge of my duty eyerv faculty of my being and will fearlessly and impartially dis charge the same, as God gives me the wisdom to see, and the power to per form it. I have no criticism to make on either of the other gentlemen who are candidates for this position, save to say that if distinguished by your choice, I shall the more highly'bsteem the houor because chosen before such able compet itors, and if beaten by either, I shall find iu such defeat no sting of disgrace, but shall continue to practice my profes sion with grateful recollection of those friends who voluntarily bestowed upon me their confidence and support.
