Books Georgia Children Will
For Five Years.
Use
The State School Book Commission, after several weeks of hard
labor in the careful examination of all books submitted for the purpose
has completed its work and selectee uniform set of text books which
henceforth, according to the law, will be used by the common schools
of Georgia. Some dissatisfaction will of course follow the decision, as
many of the parents and patrons disapprove of any change because of
the great expense that will attend the adoption of a complete set of
new books. , .
The Commission, though making quality the first requisite also
took into consideration the monetary side of the question. The price
of the new books will be from 20 to 30 per cent lower than the cost of
the old ones and this means a saving to the people of the state of
about $600,000 in the ensuing five years.
In the selection of these books the Commission has endeavored
to procure and believe that they have adopted the very best and most
liberal and yet conservative works on all subjects. No book that
reflects in any way upon the South was considered for a moment were
those which the sub commission deemed thoroughly worthy ^with
admitted for discussion. Below is the list of the books selected, only
the prices:
