Mr. Dickenson Announces.
We omitted last week to call at
tention to the announcement of
Mr. J. E. Dickenson who aspires
to fill the important office of Tax
Receiver. He was a member of
the grand jury investigating com*
mittee and no doubt in the event
of his election would seek to track
the law and follow out the sugges
tions of the jury in its general pre
sentments.
Ordinary’s office Feb. 24th 1904.
Pension checks for Confederate
soldiers and widows received.
T. B. Maxwell, Ordinary.
Some one has suggested that
the numerous candidates for the
various offices in Decatur county
should meet on the political field
and do word battle over the mer
its of their several platforms. If
such a plan were resorted to, the
public might be greatly benefitted
—inasmuch as they could thereby
learn for what as well as for .whom
they are voting—but we fear that
some of the aspirants yvould be
without a ’stump’ much less a plat
form.
The candidate riseth up in the
morning and goeth forth, seeking
whom he may devour. He return
eth home at night weary and
heavy of heart, for the timid voter
hearing him coming fleeth to the
tall timber and impassible moras-
es and hideth from the hungry
candidate all the day long, and he
hath nothing wherewith to appease
his great appetite, and he cursetb
his wife and little ones and straight
way goclh to bed and planneth
his campaign for the morrow with
extra cunning.
