Death of Mr. W. S. Penay.
The friends in this city of Mr.
and Mrs. W. S. Penny, were shock
ed to learn of the death of the
former which occurred at his home
in Abbeville S. C. Monday night,
Mr. Penny had been ill for a short
while with pneumonia and while
his friends knew of his illness it
was not thought that it would re
sult fatally. The funeral occurred
Tuesday at Abbeville.
Mr. Penny is well known here
having lived in the city over a
year. He was connected with the
Mart Clothing Company until Jan
uary when he went to Abbeville to
open a branch store for the Mart
Clothing Co.
Several months before his de-
paiture from the city he married
and brought his wife here to live.
Both of tnem were very popular
among the young people and Mr.
Penny was highly esteemed by all
who knew him. His death will
cause general regret throughout
this community.
In Memory of Gordon Powell.
On last Thursday it pleased
God, the Eternal, to call from this
world the spirit of Gordon Powell.
He left behind many stricken
hearts in whose memory he is en
shrined. He was seventeen years
of age, handsome and manly. Just
on the verge of a vigorous man
hood, his future seemed bright in
deed.
Rest on, dear Gordon, your
playfellows and schoolmates shall
see you not again; your teacher
hall look in vain for you in your
accustomed seat. The hills and
meadows over which you gamboled
with youth’s light heart shall see
you no more, but beyond the stars
thou dost beckon us, for you died
not without hope. Your teacher
and schoolmates have lost a friend
and combanion; your brothers and
sisters an affectionate brother;
your parents a fond and dutiful
son.
May God soothe the sorrows of
the stricken ones, and when life’s
duties are done and we suffer here
no more, may it be that we shall
meet him again in the Eternal
Home. His Teacher.

The political hound is still
h lundtng the other fellow. It
toes not do the party any good
fur any one faction to be eternally
.busing and maligning the other.
It may take both oars to reach the
shore, and why should the party
commit political suicide by setting
adrift either.
