ditor Searchlight:
Several weeks ago I used the
damns’ of your paper in call*
ig the citizens attention to the
[lapidated condition of the ceme-
ry. and now if you will grant
e space 1 wish to say that since
ie appearance of the article, a
rge number of citizens have
own an interest in this cher-
lied spot, and in a very sub-
antial manner have gone to
oik beautifying their lots. This
as it should be, still there yet
mains quite a number of sunk-
graves; and not a few lots
•own up in weeds.
This is beyond a doubt, the
ason of the year to clean up
id make this a very pretty and
tractive place, and while the
aount of interest is manifest I
ish to say to all, that the City
ill have it’s carts and men there
r a few days carrying away the;
ish and cleaning up it’s own |
;s, so that now by all coming
•gether, we can in a very short!
ne put the entire Diace in the I
ry best condition.
Once that it is reached it might
well to say, the City intends
eping this in the very pink of
edition, so let’s not lose any
ne but get busy and go to work
earnest.

Death of Little Jack Shaw.
On June 12, 1912 at 9:15 o-m
the Angel of Death visited the
home of Mr. and Mrs. M. A.
Shaw and overshadowed it with
deepest sorrow, by taking from
them their darling Marvin Augus,
better known as “little Jack”,
and carried him to the heavenly
home where pain and death en
ters not.
While our grief is almost too
heavy to bear, yet we find un
told consolation in the thought
that this little darling is free
from the evils of life—that he
has returned to Him who gave
him to us..
He came to cheer and brighten
the home on July 3, 1910. His
life was beautiful and sweet
with bright hopes for him in the
future with the hope that he
would grow up as a strong stal
wart character to give honcr a: d
praise to God, he was lavished
with warmest affections, yet God
in his infinite knowledge took
him from us, and bore him to
that heavenly land. Before he
knew any troubles of life or stam
or sin, his short life was ended.
It seems that his sweet face is
looking this way. with outstretch
ed hands beckoning us to the
home beyond 1 he skies.
In submission to a just and
merciful God we give him up
saying “God knoweth best”
We can’t understand why we
were bereft of thir little darling,
but His will must be our will.
We could only gaze upon those
closed eyes and innocent lips
which uttered, “Mama, Mama”
as farewell to us and as the last
words of his bright young life.

CONTEST OPEN FOR BOTH
WHITE AND COLORED CHIL
DREN.
Under the auspices of the
health committee of our City
Federation next Monday will be
inaugerated a death dealing cam
paign, against the fly.
The fly is the moat deadly in-1
sect known; One fly will pro-1
duce twelve generations in one
Summer. A single fly breeds
more than two hundred million
descendants in forty days, and
every one of them, if allowed to
live becomes a carrier of typhoid,
consumption, fevers, catarrah,
plague and every communicable
(iiease from which mankind
suffers. Their breeding places
are in garbage cans, slop buck
ets, horse and cow lots, and any
place where filth is allowed to
lie undisturbed.
We have been working for
months past for a more heathful
City, and as one means towards
this end, an ANTI FLY CAM
PAIGN will be carried on by the
Federation for the next two
weeks.
There will be prizes awarded
to the \yhite children under 16
who kill the greatest number of
flies during the two weeks begin
ning June 24th.
There will also be awarded
another list of prizes given the
colored children who kill the
greatest number during these
two weeks.

| Mr. Nicholson a Candidate.
j In another place will be found
the announcement of the name
of Mr. W. T. Nicholson, of Cli
max, as a candidate for Repre
sentative from Decatur county.
This comes by his friends after
the most earnest solicitation.
The Search Light makes no
hesitancy in saying that if elected
Mr. Nicholson will reflect credit
on Decatur county by a faithful
discharge of his duty as a legis*
lator.
The editor of the Search Light
and Mr. Nicholson have not
agreed on all political questions,
but while that was the case, they
have had the highest personal
regard for each other, and the
editor wishes to say here and
now, that he believes Mr. Nich
olson to be one of the purest
men and soundest Democrats in
the state of Georgia. Mr. Nich
olson has made a long study of
the political situation of the state
and probably no other man from
the county could be sent as a
Representative who would be
better prepared to help frame
legislation for the best interest
of the whole state.
As a citizen of Decatur county
Mr. Nicholson would faithfully
guard every measure that he be
lieved would be for the best in
terest of his own people. His
former work in the count v for
pure politics and sound Demo-
prizes have been generously do
nated by our merchants, and will
be on exhibition in the window
of Mr. Suber’s Jewelry Store.
