full of booze and from this the
policeman begun to gather frag
ments of evidence that finally
ocated the house where the tiger
liquor was being kept. When
Mr. Howell and the others with
jbiim went to the place he saw
someone running away with a
sack on his shoulder. The Cop
followed and dodged around a
house. The fleeing negro turned
around another corner and ran
plump into the wrong end of a
pistol in the hands of the police
man. He surrendered of course.
The sack he was carrying was
nearly full of bottles of whiskey.
From this the evidence was

been the main one in the busi-

: Brooks was bound over to the
! City court, where he will be tried
! for the offense.
I On Saturday night Policeman
'C. A. Helton rounded up three
| negroes alleged to have been
: gambling.
| By some kind of a ruse the
I policeman had them to open the
\door into the room where the
j game was going on. He found
j they were playing cards, with
I various amounts of money lying
jaround.
They were brought into the
Mayor’s court, but entered a plea
of “not guilty” to the charge of
gambling. The Mayor said how
ever, that the evidence justified
him in binding them over to the
City court. This step was taken
and they will have to answer at
the next term of that court.

of fruit or vegetables brought in !
by the people. j
They are at liberty to do more !
work than this after the instruc-j
tion and demonstration work for
the club members is completed, j
Successful demonstrations in
canning have been given at
Donalsonville, Brinson, Iron City, j
Faceville, Attopulgus, Bainbridge
and several other places in Deca
tur Count>. Great 1 nterest was
manifested in most places.
The girls have been unfortu
nate in losing so many tomatoes
by rains, soil pest and various
things.
Let us not be discouraged but
try harder to succeed next year.
Each girl should send me some
report of her crop, even if it is a
complete failure. Report that,
and the cause of it. so that I can
report to headquarters.
Get fruit from some source
and learn to can it by the new
process.
Let me urge those who have
even a fair crop of tomatoes to
note the following:
Keep an accurate account of
the yield of the garden, estimate
the value of the vegetables used
(at the market price) count the
cost of the work, in cultivating
the garden, gathering the fruit
and canning; estimate all market
prices, the value of canned goods
and then find the profit on the
garden.
I am anxious to have a number
of contestants for prizes.
Have accurate, neat, full re
port sent in to me promptly when
called for. For exhibits, pre
pare jelly, pickle, preserves, cat
sup and all kinds of canned fruit
and vegetables in glass jars.
This new industry makes a new
era in the rural home.
It means the beginning of a
successful career for women in
the home.
It means better living at a
lower cost.
I hope that the work will grow
until it will be carried on in every
rural home in Decatur County. 1
have enjoyed my stay and labor
among the good people of this
county and hope I have been a
blessing to some, at least.
Let all letters to me be sent to
Bainbridge, Ga. for the present.
