be (as it has been in the past),
a matter of pride to the entire
State. Personally we do not know
liis opponent, Mr .Broyles, but
our information is that Mr.
‘ Broyles has not been in the prac
tice of law for twelve of fifteen
years, during which time he has
had very slight connection, if any,
with the profession. For the num
ber of years stated he has presid
ed over the police court of Atlanta
where his duties only required
an interpretation of the most sim
ple criminal laws and of the
municipal code of Atlanta. Cer
tainly a man who has been re
moved from the learned profes
sion of law for twelve or more
years would not, in our opinion,
be competent to preside as a
Judge of our highest Courts of
last resort.
In addition to this, we think
that south Georgia should at
least be entitled to the office for
which Judge Pottle has announc
ed. North Georgia has every
judge, both on the Supreme
Court and on the Court of Ap
peals. with the exception of
Judge Atkinson of Brunswick
land Judge Pottle? It seems to
us that North Georgia, and At
lanta especially, make entirely
* too many claims upon the peo
ple. Atlanta has furnished the
last three Governors, and may
furnish the next Governor. Not
satisfied with this Atlanta now
puts in the race for the Court of
Appeals Judge Broyles. South
Georgia, should, and we think
will, vote solidly for Judge
Pottle.

the Proposed New County” and

Ydk, he does all that, but he
makes the ono great error of
filling this letter with his own
conclusions which a large majori
ty of the' ‘ ‘Voters of the Proposed
New County” have investigated
several months ago, and they
know that the doctor has told—a
mistake. To begin with he
charges that the town of Donalson
ville alone is to be benefitted by
this new county. Doubtless the
doctor did not see that large del
egation of representative citizens
that visited Atlanta last summer
in the interest of the new coun
movement. That delegation wa
composed of intelligent citizens
from every section of the new
county movement, and they be
lieved, and believe still, that the
creation of the new county is
necessary to their best interest,
and we are willing to risk their
judgement in preference to
opinion of one not residing f
territy effected, and who, th'
fore does not feel the interest
this section that these men feeji. i
Again lie tells us that Dor
sonville is only five miles fi?*^
the Early county line, when, as
a matter of fact, doctor Chason
knows that Donalsonville is at
least fifteen or twenty miles
from the line seperating Early
county from the proposed new
county. He says that Donalson
ville is twenty eight miles from
the fork of the two rivers. When
did you move the fork, doctor?
The town remains in the same
old place. Your efforts to mis
lead are too apparant to permit
of discussion. All of this discus
sion. however .appears to be for
the purpose of convincing the
“dear voters” that Donalsonville
should not be the county seat.

two-thirds of the doctor’s 1
has absolutely no bearing upon
sions that he opposfed the new
county because it.is to his own
financial interest that the county
remain as it is. If that be true,
then doctor, at whose expense do
you profit by the present arrange
ment?
In an outburst of eloquence,
the doctor declares that he “loves
every inch of old Decatur soil”.
We note, however, that his in
vestments have been more large
ly confined to the east side of
the county, while his interest in
this section appears to be solely
for political purposes.
Following this declaration of
loyalty the doctor stoops to say
that the ‘Emigrants” to this sec
tion who think the present, coun
ty too large should move out, and
thus he would expel from the
county a very large per cent of
he citizens of the entire county,
for be it remembered that those
^sympathy CCh the new coun
ty movement are by no means
limited to the west side. In this
we find the true character of the

Chason’s intelligence utter words
in discouragement of desirable
citizens coming to this section to
make their homes if they dare
express independent opinins con

such discouragement, when the
wisest intellects and best efforts
of the South are pulling for that
