HARDAGE, Proprietor BF OF TIE LOCAL ELKS LODGE Monday night occurred the installation of the new officers of the Elks Lodge. Mr. G. G. Bower was installed as Exalted Ruler; Mr. J. W. McDuffie was installed as Esteemed Leading Knight; Dr. Hamil, as esteemed Loyal Knight; Mr. M. B. Sollar as esteemed loyal knight; Mr. C. L. Senter as Secretary; Mr. E. S. Varner as Treasurer; Mr. E. Blumenstein as Tiler and Mr. L. A. Friedman as Trustee for three years. Mr: H. H. Coombs the retir ing exalted Ruler was elected representative of the Grand Lodge; Mr. M. H. Nussbaum as Alternate; Mr. H. G. Bell was appointed Esquire; Mr. S. H. Brantley, as Inner Guard; Mr. L. G. Papy as Organist. The chairmen appointed for the different committees are as follows: House committe: L. H. Cliett, chairman. Committee on drafting by-laws: H. H. Coombs, chairman. Visiting Committee: L. A. Friedman, chairman. Finance Committee: Quimby Melton, chairman. Relief Committee: Officers of the Lodge. w if Council met in regular session Monday April 3rd, i919. Those present were Mayor Callahan, and Aldermen, Laing, Lane, Carter, Wheeler and Nussbaum. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. A resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a contract with the A. C. L. Ry., to construct a wire over their road at the in ter section of Clay street was read and approved a copy being attached marked exhibit ‘ A.” Mr. Gammage appeared before council in regard to making im provements at the Electric Light plant. The W. and L. committee were appointed to take the mat ter up with Mr. Gammage and to report their findings to council The protectogragph was ordered returned to the factory, same having not been properly bought by the purchasing agent of the city. Mr. C. C. Brown represent ing a crematory company ap peared before council. It was upon motion of Aid. Lane secon- den by Aid Carter moved and carried that a crematory be not installed at this time. The follow ing library board were elected by council: Mrs. Laural Tonge, Mrs. F. S. Jones, Mrs. J. M. Scott, Mrs. Georgia Fleming, M. H. Nussbaum. The W.and L. committee were empowered to make a digest of the light and water ordinances and put them in phamplet form. The building committee was upon motion of Aid. Carter seconded by Aid. Lane, empowered to handle the old school buildings to the best advantage of the city and in any matter they might see fit. This committee to act in conjunction with the mayor.
